Hows it goin, I just bagged a Marea 2.0 HLX with service history up to 73k, it's got 86k on it now and seems like a good motor, body work is mint as is the interior and the engine sounds good. I'm thinking about putting it in for a service and wondering how much it will set me back and if I'm best getting it done at a service centre locally or taking it to the Fiat/Alfa service centre in Glasgow city centre.

Cheers

depends what kind of service you want. a 'full' service will cost a couple of hundred at a dealer, a part service at an independant is usually £40. personally i'd do it yourself, that way it saves a lot of money and you know everything has been done.

To be honest I'd like to save as much cash as possible incase any unexpected expenses appear with the car, that way it's not as sore spending a couple of hundred getting it up to scratch, whereas if I put it into Fiat/Alfa and they take 2 hundred for a service then tell me it needs this that and the next thing done on top of that.

It's a 99 on an s reg and I got it for 500 so even if I need to spend another 2 or 300 on it to get it good I can live with that. Hopefully it's a decent motor though.

I've got plenty of space in my driveway so I suppose I could grab a set of tools and a manual and get into it. Are there any turorials on here that show you how to service the marea and any showstopping faults to look out for as I'm not very clued up on them.

If you live in the Glasgow area, try Curruth Autos at Whiteinch, near Victoria Park on the North Side- 11 Haldane St, G14. 0141 950 1488. They are Fiat and Saab specialists. They did a cambelt change on my Marea 1.6 and only charged £117. Excellent job, no problems and good service. They are also cheap for servicing etc. Garage is a bit of a dump, but who cares when they do a good job. Good Luck with the new motor. :)
