hi just wondered if anyone can offer an explanation of cure - was just driving to work this morning mind it was cold -3 and at a couple diff times on the drive to work i had the battery light flash at me before going off, any ideas why that would happen?

cheers

a batteries capacity and output is reduced in the cold, and the car is designed to warn you when the voltage drops. i wouldnt worry about it, a garage would help, and lots of short journeys will make it worse, but its not a real problem unless the battery dies (this is the time of year they usually die)

maybe a quick check of the alternator would be worth doing, it always helps to spot problems early, look for 14.4v across battery with engine started, and at least 13.99v with engine started and all electricals switched on. in winter you tend to have more electricals on, so it is also when voltage regulation problems tend to show up.

it could also be a problem with the main earth strap, so it might be worth checking the condition of it.
