Hi all, just as I'd said, I will report to u if the judder stopped after having the knew throttle body fitted. Well, once it was fitted u need to get it calibrated!! Very important lol. Ok, also found out the exhaust was leaking so this needed replacing today as this can also cause judder, loss of power and fuel smell, also hard to get into gears apparently.so after having this replacement as well I'm happy to report that after 5 stressful weeks this car is now sorted and drives like knew..happy days!!

I bought a brand knew throttle body and it needed calibration, this was done.also had to 're calibration of crank sensor n lamba sensor coz eml came on, exhaust tripped it lol. Right!! Here's the micky take part, it ran a1 for ages then once left to stand, happened again!! Jerking on low gear n 5th hard to get into.basically I now give up lol. gonna have a full check on it Sat by fiat guy, summits not right for sure.all the things that usually cause this fault have been fixed, can't for the life of me understand y it's not putting it right.

Just to say, this procedure isn't valid, I saw this on another forum n the tech guys reply to someone who tried this said u don't do it!! any new sensor parts fitted to a car need to b calibrated into the cars ecu.purely coz u can't put anything foreign into a vehicle n expect the ecu to know what it is. also, it's done so if there r any diagnostic faults to your car in the future, the machine can pick it up.if it's not on your car's ecu to begin with it won't know what's wrong. Hope this helps

sounding a bit wishy washy to me.
Sensors are bought to a certain specification (tolerance) that works with the car.

Agreed.

Sensors are made to a specific standard and configuration. No additional calibration should be necessary.

how to calibrate sensors then?

Hi, u take your car to an auto electronic specialist, they use a calibration machine, much like a diagnostic machine n 're feed through the cars ecu.I went to a1 diagnostic in Cardiff.they r fab

2nd hand,I.e spares don't need to b, but knew parts do. I mean a fiat specialist or 3 seperate mechcanics can't b wrong hey? well let's say, no they aren't coz after all the work was done my car still jerked.after calibration, no jerking.it now drives superb.

Ali 78, regardless of who is right and who is wrong the car is running properly again and that is what's important ;) Thanks for sharing your experience.

Throttle bodies are factory calibrated because of the potentiometer position. You cannot just remove the part and put it back on again unless the position is very carefully marked before it is removed, with paint for example. However i think if you buy a new throttle body which is surely going to come with the potientiometer already fitted there is no need to recalibrate it?

Some cars need the phonic wheel relearn which the car does itself once you instruct it to do so. There are no other parts which need external calibration when you replace them. These cars are computerised and automatically self monitoring and automatically self teaching. Sensors work well or they work less than well. If a sensor is not working properly there are no remedies other than replacement. They require no calibration. The exception would be the position of the throttle body potentiometer.
