Technical JTD Plug in chips

Has anyone bought and used the plugin power upgrades available off ebay? I have chipped another car and it worked but that was in the ecu rather than a plug in. I know the benefits but want to be sure they won't upset the ecu!

This is a well covered topic, so I guess Argon will move it - if this is regarding these nice plug-in devices that will boost performance out of nothing.

Your engine will be pretty upset, and the benefits - nothing.

ive not heard anything good or bad from them, but cant imagine somthing that easy to do that would get results.

Also, the stilos electrics are quite sensetive, its the only car i know where just having a slightly flat battery can confuse it into bringing up alot of false warnings. So i wouldnt risk attaching anything personally that tries to intercept or disrupt normal ecu running! :yuck:

I have had one on my Marea( remapped now) and it worked well but the Stilo being the way it is might upset something else

I remember a loooooong way back there was a lass on here who put one of the dragon tuning boxes on here JTD..it caused over fueling and naffed up the engine in the end..lesson learned me thinks..

You would think she would have noticed a lot of black smoke which she would have had with over fueling

Yeah Ive had a bad experience with these too. My dad got one for his Merc A170 and was told to remove it by a local independent merc specialist. He had one called a TDI powermodule, was from a german company.

It apparantly gave upto 25bhp, but all it apparantly did was turn up the pressure to the diesel pump and tricked some other sensors. After a month with it connected it was running lumpy from cold and kicking out black smoke. Sold it on ebay to some other mug for £95.

Honestly stay well clear

From what I remember about her posting at the time she did have loads of excess black smoke but she ignored it and kept on driving regardless saying it goes like stinko..:bang:

had one for 9 months no problems, however i should point out mine is an adjustable one and i have set it just below the theoretical max power. seems like there are good and bad ones about but the best results are definitly from remapping

Thanks everyone think best to eave well alone. I can go as fast as I need and mid range is not bad plus fuel economy is excellent. Doubt I would gain much and a remap is about £300 so not really worth it!
