hey guys, im thinking of changing my 1.6 for a JTD, what are your thoughts?

would it be a waste of time? its just parkers says it slightly quicker. 0-60 is quicker by 0.5secs and the torque is way higher, being a diesel n all.

but are there any major common problems with the JTD?

also im attracted by the better fuel economy and cheaper tax, but are service cost simialr, or does it cost alot to keep them on the round lol?

cheers guys

Been there, done that. Parkers is wrong (Unless it means 80HP). JTD has similar issues to most Stilo's but added issue of overboost valve being placed in iffy position. Powerhouse of an engine, great economy, low insurance/tax. Potential for tuning (remap). If you aim for 04 or newer then even better. Get Yellow if you can.

ive had my jtd for nearly 2 years, not to much has gone wrong with it.

its got enough power for what i need, near 50mpg average, cheap group 5 insurance, low road tax (y)

it looks great, goes well, and for a diesel its quite quiet and non rattly.

I never had any complaints with the JTD after 40,000 miles. JFL summed up what I was going to say. Mine was the 115 variant on a 03 plate with a full service history, and more importantly, yellow :D!

I'm gutted mine has gone, but that's uni for you!

Forum discounts didnt make a difference to mine, shop around enough (away from the comparison websites) and you get a good deal.

Direct lines 12 months for 10 months is pretty good atm.....

Been there done that too... JTD is a much more driveable than the 1.6!

2 and a half years and 52K on and still going strong, just supercharge pressure switch, passenger ocs pad, front springs & anti rollbar links (NSF spring snapped) & NSR wheel bearing in that time. Otherwise just routine servicing + cambelt and consumables such as discs/pads all round, new battery, wiper blades & tyres + the odd bulb :D

1.6 felt fragile at a much less miles... :(

Both my stilos were phase 1 cars and dads first 1.6 was too, dad had a phase 2 115 JTD MW afterwards and these cars seem better screwed together than the phase 1 cars.

My JTD was an exception @ 3.5 years old & 19.5 K when I bought it Sept '06 as it was a one owner ex. motability car. Actually think the engine & gearbox on my car is getting better with age. Missus wants to run it for another 2 years which means it would have 120K on it when we come to trade it and I'm quite confident we will get her (JTD) there ;)

Would suggest you go look at this 05 plate and check the service history, if it's a one owner car with a full fiat service history should be OK. Be aware though that cam belt is due @ 5 years / 72K per original Fiat schedule for the car so would bear this in mind during your haggling as it may be a cost you will have to bear but at least if you get it done you will benefit from the piece of mind whom did it and what was done and you get the g'tee on the job. If it were me it would depend entirely on mileage. If I was doing 15,000+ a year it would be a JTD (remapped of course!).

Under that it would be the 1.6 with a remap and GSR induction kit mostly because its a lot less dull to drive over the long term. I like to give a petrol car a nice good thrash on A roads, you can't do that in a diseasel!.

You've obviously never driven a JTD then (standard or mapped)

The 1.6 would be a better town/shopping car but otherwise it's no contest :slayer:

I have actually I've owned one a 130 mjet in a Grande Punto :p. Just not as fun and won't be as quick on tight twisties. But yes it will be owned on the straights .

Only thing that lets the 1.6 down is its a piece of junk, very thirsty for a 1.6 and not that powerful.
