1. Car is down on power(before and after blanking the EGR).
2. Car is producing large amounts of smoke.
3. Your Engine Management Light has been activated.
All this points to an incorrect fuel air mixture.
So whats causing it?
We know its not the EGR as blanking off the EGR didn't help.
We know its not a loss of boost due to a leak on the high pressure side of the induction system, if it was Dave or the garage would surely have found such a severe leak.
We know its not the Boost Valve or its connecting pipes, again Dave and the garage would have spotted it.
So that basiscally rules out most of the usual suspects leaving us with something not so obvious.
Dave, I know the MAF is almost new but have you tried unplugging it and taking her for a drive. If things improve, less smoke, better perfomance you may have a faulty MAF sensor. Giving it a quick clean may help.
Has the whole of the induction system been checked for obstructions(leaves, crushed pipe etc.) that could be reducing the airflow(causing overfueling)? Everything from the front grill to the inlet manifold.
Engine temp sensor could be faulty, if the ECU thinks the engine is cold the ECU will over fuel the engine. Get it checked or replaced as they only cost about £15.
Try putting some injector cleaner in when you next fill up(use a premium fuel, BP Ultimate Diesel for example), maybe one or more is sticking open and need a clean?
If we keep ticking things off the list we will eventually find the problem.
