Three years ago bought a 2011 1.6 diesel Mylife semi automatic. On way home from buying in Bournemouth to home in Devon, up pops 'check transmission' message see handbook. and red bonnet up warning sign. What have I bought? Nothing in handbook about auto transmission at all. Wrong handbook? pull into layby, shutdown, start warning gone.
No more problems for a while, then sometimes in summer usually going steep downhill same message, same fix turn off turn on.
Then one day after parking for a while started and won't engage any gear , phone road rescue and while waiting phone various garages and gearbox specialists, sorry don't touch those, even independant Fiat specialist. Get towed home to think and consider main dealer prices or scrap. This forum and internet all very good, start with fuse to selespeed pump, where is it? Has been asked here but no definative answer I could find. Well by luck I found blown fuse and which relay controls pump. They are F83 and relay T30 in engine compartment box. Replaced fuse lasted 4 miles blew again. Maxi blade 30A fuse about £2.50 from Halfords. Another fuse got me back home. Found oily connector to selespeed pump and thought that was it. Lasted 4 miles. Pumps seem to fail apparently, so removed it ,really quite easy from below on ramps. Got correct part number from Shop4Parts who were very helpful, very difficult to find one but have one coming next week from very helpful company in Latvia.

In mean time researched pumps a bit and all looked the same to me from Puntos,500's, Lancias Alfas, so located a punto pump on ebay , ordered, came in 2 days.
All good apart from inlet/outlet which was only different in that the inlet port from reservoir was threaded, mine a push fit. Turns out it was four bolts to swap the base plate of pump from mine to new one and hey presto. Have refitted, refilled reservoir with correct oil, another mind bogler for me, so far ,reaching for a piece of wood, so good.

Just to mention, I have the Multiecuscan program which meant I could delete errors and bleed system after fitting new pump.

Hope this helps someone.

The pump will need replacing but you need to find what caused the pump to blow

Likely overheating from working too hard
Does it run all the time? If so it's likey the pressure acculturator isn't holding pressure correctly there a thread here in the 500 section all about these gearboxes I'd post there for people who have a good idea about these units

Hmm yes, waiting for next symptom, pump not running continuously, pressurises to around 44 bars then stops. Hoping it was just the pump motor that failed first. One last thing resistance of original pump motor is 0.2 ohms. New one is1.4 ohms. 500 section very useful.
