JOJO (j820ojo) has been going strong all winter, never broken down, used daily and driven hard. Its lugged 2 130tc engines across england and racked up huge miles, only probs were 2 buckeled rims from going over huge potholes, bending the 16vt 16" rims near the tyre bead causing 2 punctures, i smacked the kerb out with a club hammer and block of wood and its back on the road :slayer:helped 2 mates move house with it and removed rear seats to load it up to the max - it swallows loads like a cheap :D

Few more pics - loaded up with 2 130tc engines - these were in the boot for a month as i couldnt get help t remove them (lazy) lol but JOJO didnt care it just carried on as usual just drunk a load more juice to get me back hah haa!

Few taken with my 124 Spider - almost on the road wooohoooooo :)

Great car continues to take everything i throw at it :worship:

we are hibernating due to cold. It is great to see your tipo going strong. It is such a practical car as you say, nothing since comes near in my opinion. Like your pics. I have been driving from york to sheffield many times through the winter in my TIPO SX TD revelling in the comfy seats and spacious interior and copious dials I NEVER see a tipo, only armies of bmw 3s so it is great to know others are still in daily use. :)

Too good to be true

oh yes she died on the A1 near Sandy in the pi:mad::mad:ing rain and i spent 30 mins trying to get it running on the hard shoulder - nothing.

I got a tow to a mates garage and spent the day on it - i checked everything, timing, fuel supply, injectors, resistance of crank sensor with my mate at FIAT technical giving me the correct settings - all checked out, another serial 16v OWNER said to check the wires around / on the coil esp on base wide plug, and plug on top as lower one gets wet - it was VERY wet as i was driving - these were dried and cleaned with contact cleaner - replaced nothing- she wouldnt fire

then checked ecu - it was wet - so swapped for another - nothing still

snap on diagnostic tester said NO RPM detected as only error on ecu - so i again called FIAT tech mate and checked sensor in dissy - removed stripped cleaned replaced it and crank sensor resistance again, both were fine.

now it was getting dark i was miles from home and it still would not start.

there was spark, fuel, and timing was fine - all marks line up, spraying easystart into tb didnt help at all . . . . .

its got dark and i had 20 mins to pack up - last try cleaned every electrical conector i could see, and tried again - she coughed fired for half a sec and then cranked and cranked and cranked - nothing. . . .

i left it - had a fag, tried again thinking it was the end of the day now - and it spluttered, almost fired - spluttered almost fired and after almost firing more and more it caught :worship: :worship: :worship:

rough idle to begin with and then settled down - running fine:slayer:

i packed up and drove 1.5 hrs home steady 70 with cameras around the A1 and a steady :p:p:pmph with no camera bits and its faster and more responsive than ever.

will go through everything on her later and a full service inc fuel filter too.

ahh the joys of JOJO

:D:D:D Problem solved :D:D:D

It was the coil

It was sparking but was intermittently giving a weak spark which kept wetting the plugs, it worked for a while then died again!

I found an old bosch 131 sport coil i was using as a incense stick holder in the flat and fitted that - the Tipo has 4 orangey wires going into the top of the coil i split them and joined each side together to go to the + and - on the 131 Bosch coil.

The ignition amplifier is under the coil and is a standalone unit - i unscrewed it from the base of the tipo coil and cable tied it to the battery tray.

It fired up first time! :D

And its got more power than before and feels more torquey too, has a misfire now and again but only for a few secs then clears and rev counter in a bit juddery under 4000 rpm but is not a problem!

So there you go, 1980 131 Sport coil on a 1992 Tipo 16v!

Other news is i found 4 20vt rims and tyres on ebay for £30 but one has a crack along a spoke, i bought them as my 16vt rims keep buckling and punctures are more frequent too.

JOJO has been helping to start my 124 spider too, and after fitting the 131 coil i have used it a lot and it has even reliably taken me to the airport at 5am and started first time when i returned 3 days later! was easy to find it in carpark too amidst a sea of grey mondeos and bmws :p

i wonder if my coil is dodgey then, i've had it twice in the past when my car has conked out on me and wouldn't start, both times i got it going again by taking the spark plugs out and putting some redex into the plug holes, leaving it 10 minutes then turning it over to spit everything out then refitting the plugs, maybe it just needed the plugs drying out:confused:

jONBOY - Its worth looking out for a spare. On one of my other Sedicis I had a similer intermittent to you. Swapped the coil over from the other ( I was madly running "his and hers 16vs at the time) and away it went!

Just got the one car now...............but got 2 coils!!

MIKE

its still dead but a mate just found a coupe 16v na. alternator in his shed so im on my way now to get it :D

Pic attached from just b4 it died entering the town of Waltham Abbey in Essex - Is King Harold buried there?

Apparently. . . . . .
