Have they stopped making it? I was speaking to a guy in the local paint shop and he seemed to think it might be one of these chemicals the EU banned last year as nowehere can get it now :( And apparently the new stuff isn't nearly as good - but I bought some anyway. Luckily, the bottle of Jenolite had magically unclogged itself by the time I got home (y)

In case anyone wonders, I'm redoing the arches the bodyshop already redid last year. I don't trust them after their first effort :(

Don't know if it was banned, I'd not heard that, but its phosphoric acid.

I love killing rust and this is the best ive used, recognised as the best, Ant! http://www.bilthamber.com/hydrate80.html

I thought being pro stuff that would cost a fortune, but for a 0.5 litre tub the price is VERY reasonable - £12.95. Compare that with those tiny little bottles you get with a rust converter kit from Halfords and it works out cheaper per litre!

EDIT: I still have a couple of bottles of Jenolite (all Pre-90's Fiat owners will have one tucked away somewhere :p ) Maybe they will become collectable now that they stop making them? :chin:

:D

No need. A quick browse on their website shows this:

"We are waiting on new stock of Jenolite products from the factory manufacturers. Also a similar product is currently being formulated by another supplier and will be available in the very near future. RustSolutions recommend Jenoseel products in the meantime, it is very similar to Jenolite but has a built in red oxide primer, and it is not an acid based product either."

All the liquid Jenolite products are "Out of stock". :(

I love killing rust so much i bought the 1l tub, ive used loads of different rust treatments over the years and and can have probs overpainting most, the hydrate 80 is head and shoulders above the rest and used by diy and pro's, i paint or spray over all scabs etc with all my jobs and have never had a comeback, some over 4 years old repaints Ant!

if you want something doing properly...

preparation is everything when painting, but its also the most difficult and time consuming bit, so most bodyshops will do a quick and crap job of it safe in the knowledge that by the time it rusts through it will usually be too late for the customer to do anything about it. guess in your case they underestimated the rusting propeties of italian metal. :D

Thanks Ant :) Hopefully won't need any with the new car but in case I do, I'll give that a try!

I've made a big effort with cleaning, sanding treating and anti-rust priming (y) Getting rid of every last spot of dirt was the worst bit, you wouldn't think I clean the car (and do my best to clean the arches) every week or so

You won't have a prob with the bmw rusting they are very good, it was only the e36 (3 series) that rusted away, i worked for an independant bmw dealer for over 4 years and you will enjoy your 330 d!!! very nice Ant!

I have an addiction to the e36 m3 because everytime you test drove one or went for the butties (you couldn't eat your buttie when you got back) you shhit yourself 340 bhp standard, under your right foot is something else there are quick cars which i own and there are fuucking FAST!! cars, i was working there for the first 6 months and the slightest bit of damp and on went the traction control button, or so i thought after snaking down the road into 3rd i said to my mechanic co pilot (fuucking good that traction control) see how it keeps you on the road he he, at which point he said when the light on the dash is on the traction is off (bit of a work type joke on me, they told me it was the other way round when i started he he ) anyway i got away with it but they can snap like jaws!! right round baby right round LAMPOSTS!!!!!! Ant!

Jenolite Rust Remover

Dear All,

Jenolite Rust Remover products are very much alive and well. My company, Cedesa Ltd, has been producing them for many years. Unfortunately, the brand has been passed through several companies due to acquisition over the last decade or more, including latterly Pennzoil and Shell. It wasn't considered as a key brand amongst the portfolio of brands that had been acquired and eventually after the sales had almost fallen through the floor, we purchased the brand to keep it alive, recognising that it still had a loyal following in the marketplace.
The sales are starting to grow again and it is becoming more available in the marketplace. If you are struggling for a distruibutor to buy from then please contact us and we will point you in the right direction.
