Seriously enjoying my HGT at the mo....but now looking to get it serviced etc....having looked at numerous forums/sites....it appears that I can't get the car "fully" serviced unless I have the red key (which I don't...silly me for not reading up before buying the car...doh)...well here's the inevitable Q's...

Q. Can the car be fully serviced by Fiat dealer WITHOUT the red key?

Q. Is the only issue (and I don't say this lightly), with not having the red master key, is that if the ECU knackers! I gonna have a big headache or/and a lighter wallet or be looking for another fiat (with a master key)?

Guess that's all for now...looking forward to some great answers..... :)

Red key is only for when you're ECU buggers up.

You can still disconnect the Battery and reconnect it without damaging the ECU.

I've had 7 Fiats in 3 years, and never used the red key once.

The red key is ONLY used to program new blue keys.

Its not needed to service the car.
Its not needed to reset the ECU.

If there is a fault with the ECU a red key won't help.

There was a rumour flying around that certain service routines needed the use of the red key, but as Tom says it's not true.

Probably started by someone selling ecus and key sets!

re red key

Very relieved to read your comments. I have a Mk 2 Bravo, and I do not have the red key. I had a spare blue key cloned of the one key I got with the car. I use this key all the time, my wife has the other one.
