Hi Ya

Hope someone can help!!
HUGE problems today with my Bravo... started fine went to petrol station to fill it up went to start the car again and it wouldnt do anything - except alarm going off embarassing me in front of a garage full of people!!
Jump started it and drove for a bit then just let it run for a bit and after about 5 mins it just turned off again:bang: , had to jump start it again but this time it started but it kept revving like i had my foot on the gas on and off.
I managed to drive it home ... but now im stuck!!!!
At first I thought it mite have just been the battery - but after it just turned itself off and the revving on its own i dont know what it is???
Anyone got any ideas???

Don't panic mate, i can't help you but there's a man called Jug:worship: who'll be on in all likelyhood tomorrow and i'm sure he'll be able to point you in the right direction ;)

Why was the alarm going off? Does it normally go off?

Could be an imobiliser fault, particularly if the imobiliser cuts off the fuel pump.

this is all guess work though ;)

:ROFLMAO:!! i'm not magic you know :D

its an odd problem, sounds like an intermittent electrical problem but its hard to say. i'd consider getting a diagnostic check done.

although a bit more info and a few basic checks could help a lot.

firtly, what engine is it?

secondly, when you tried to start it with the alarm going off, did the starter motor turn the engine? did it turn as quickly as usual, slower than usual, or not at all. did the dash lights all come on, go dim, not come on at all?
the fact that the alarm went off could mean there was a power failure (a severe voltage dip often sets the alarm off). i would have expected the starter motor to turn slowly or not at all in this case. if this is what happened you need to test the battery and alternator.

also, once it was bump started did it drive and idle exectly as usual, with no warning lights on the dash, and then appear to cut out for no reason? if that is the case it sounds like intermittent sensor failure (my money would be on CPS).

if the starter motor turned as fast as usual but the engine seemed rough once started, stuggled to idle, and then cut out, i would suspect there is a problem with the fueling or ignition. (could be many things, your size of engine will give more of a clue)

hi, this might sound silly but i had a similar problem a few years ago on my Bravo and the garage put it down to an electrical fault which was caused by a broken fog light which let the water on to the wires and caused some kind of fault.

Thank you that really helps because I do have a broken head light and I washed my car the day before the problems started!!! Do you remember what they did to fix the problem?

The Alarm Went Off And The Clock Reset It Self So, I Got My Dad To Jump Start It And It Went ,so I Thought It Was A Battery Fault , I Got The Car Home And It Died On Me .when I Jump Started It Again The Car Revs 0000 To 3000 All The Time. Today I Started It And It Was Fine But Took A Few Goes Before It Started ,did You Just Replace The Foglight ,did You Have The Above Problem ,

My bravo didn't start the other night. Left me freezing in the cold for 90 minutes waiting for the AA. Turns out it was absolutely fine, just having a little spazz.

AA man was nice though and didn't rip me off. I think my car is telling me it needs more TLC :p

sounds like you have electrical issues, but it shouldnt have anything to do with a headlight !. check that the battery connections are clean and tight at the battery, then the earth lead / strap from the battery to bodywork / engine / gearbox. then check/clean/tighten connections on starter and alternator. then check the fusebox under the bonnet for corrosion / loose connections etc..

Owen.
