Ok so totally new to all this ... so much so that i havent even got my car yet. Anywho this is my first new car and i want to look after it as best i can. In saying that i am a student and on a tight budget so was looking at some car wash products and came accross this on Halfords and was wondering if it is any good...

Its 14.99 and includes

Features

  • Large Red Bucket
  • Turtlewax Zipwax Shampoo 500ml
  • Turtlewax Original Polish 500ml
  • Turtlewax Alloy Wheel Cleaner 500ml
  • Car Wash Sponge
  • Synthetic Chamois
  • Brush
  • Mixing Dish
  • 100g Polishing Cloth
What you guys think? any good for at least a starter pack?

I saw that on the website yesterday, looks ok.

I don't have any experience of turtle wax, all my stuff is autoglym which is brilliant!!

I think it looks ok, and yeah good value, one bottle of autoglym is around £7-10!!

When are you getting your car, sounds lovely :)

just bare in mind some cheaper shampoos need a higher dilution rate than others (AG is 20ml to 10ltrs almost a bucket full)

Have another 10 week wait until i get the car ... so excited its ridiculous! Actually think my house mates are going to gag me and lock me in my room if i dont shut up about it :D

I really love the 500 its a nice shape :)

10 weeks seems like forever but they do fly past.

ach you're allowed to be excited, at least on here anyway :D

youre lucky, you get the cool key that you can change the cover, not fair lol!!

This might be a bit sad but it was the key covers that sealed the deal lol was looking at the ford ka and the 500 and couldnt decide ... then got the accessories book for the 500. Done deal (y)

- 2 x £ shop buckets [£2]
- 1 Wash mitt [£2]
- Cheapo shampoo [£2] or more expensive Autoglym stuff [£5]
- Drying towel [£3-5]
Total: £10-£15

You won't need a polish unless you wash it badly, and you can always get a tub of a decent wax for £15 if you want to go that far.

Make sure you use 1 bucket for soapy clean water and another for just water to rinse the dirt in, then wash the car from top to bottom rinsing the mitt often in the rinse bucket. You should be able to keep it looking great for no more than £15 without the need for wasting money on a 'mixing dish' (whatever one of those is) or crap polish that won't work.

I had one of these kits for my last car and none of the products really impressed me at all.

Actually the alloy wheel cleaner did a nice job, but then again I haven't used any competing products so I didn't have anything to compare it to besides elbow grease. ;)
