I've used Optimax super unleaded in my 1.6 Bravo for about 5-6 months now and I used normal unleaded for first time about 3 weeks ago. For some reason my car is going noticably quicker and drives better from cold since I've been using the normal unleaded. Why???

Something else about petrol.

To fill my car up empty in optimax cost £37 (at 79p/ gallon). For some reason the normal unleaded costs me £40 (at 77p/gallon) to fill up from empty. Whats going on??

Optimax

I think the Esso super unleaded is regarded as being better for the Bravos, and the difference is i think because the Bravo has an 'intelligent' ecu - which means it adjusts the mixture according to the conditions in the engine. So, when you use the super unleaded optimax it goes quicker for a bit, but then the ecu adapts to it and adjusts the mixtue a bit and you loose some of that performance gain.

Re: Optimax

So does that mean its best to alternatively use different types of petrol? Might give it a try.

Re: Re: Optimax

79p per gallon!!! I wish I lived where you do.

(I know it was as type)

Re: Re: Re: Optimax

I just use optimax now and again, but I gather from previous posts that 3 tanks optimax then 1 or 2 normal unleaded is the way to go to keep performance up.
I noticed in a car brochure the other day that the bhp figure quoted using super unleaded, not the standard stuff.
