Is my clutch going?

Recently noticed that gears are a bit difficult to engage (1.4sx 1998).

When I push the clutch down I get a squeak from the engine. Any idea what it is? Clutch on the way out?? or something else?

Could be the clutch thrust bearings

Got a lot worse in the last day.

Gears are now very difficult to engage, local mechanic cant get the car in to have a look till tomorrow.

Any idea if thrust bearing are more serious (i.e cost) that a new clutch? Any ball park ideas for cost I can expect?

I had the same type of problem with my car. The bearings were part of the clutch mechanism (if I remember correctly) and so replacing the clutch worked. New clutch cost me £150 for a 1.4 Bravo

I had this and when i went to priory motor group fiat garage they replaced the clutch on guarentee. Remember mate it is a defect part - so if you have a guarentee push this 1 and im sure you wil get the clutch and labour all for free - if you dont have a guarentee its about £150 as above!

Priory Motor Group quoted me £400 for a new clutch!

Like you I managed to get it through under the warranty insisting its a defective part and not wear and tear - normally warranty companies will squeal out of clutches screaming wear and tear tho so I would beware
