Hello, I go to pick up my Fiat 500 tomorrow - she's a bright red, sparkly, gorgeous twin air and I just cant wait! *driving everyone at work doolally cos I'm so excited!*

I did have a Puma, called Flissy, to which I was inordinately attached and it's gonna take a great car to replace her but, oh boy, I think I've found her!

Oh boy oh boy oh boy...

Hi, and welcome , : - }

the Twinair is a fantastic little engine,
just keep an eye on the engine oil level for the initial weeks, ; -}
as if not run in correctly they can use some oil..,

Calm down girl ... My iPhone nearly exploded from that level of excitement ... I'll have mine in about 48 hrs but who's counting ?

ooh, thanks for that. What sort of oil do I need? I'll get some tonight in readiness! :)

hi,
be careful here..!! the Twinair isn't a conventional engine( has no inlet valves) the component " actuator" that's replaced the inlet valves , requires a special grade of oil,
Selenia is the recommended FIAT oil,
you'll probably be best going to a FIAT / Alfa specialist for a 1 or 2 litre tin,

Quite expensive..BUT good stuff.

where are you buying your new baby..??

if they are doing a "service" before collection..DO ASK what oil they have used..,

either way..check the oil level at the garage / dealer,
then get in the habit of checking it parked at your place ( same LEVEL spot) when the engine is cold..
you'll soon notice if the level is dropping,

mine has been spot-on - covered 14,000 miles now 14 months after purchase,

Blimey, Charlie!! I am the least technological person alive...*eek*

I'm in central Norfolk and am picking Rosa up from near Kings Lynn - where can I go and get the special oil? Thanks for the heads up! :)

Enjoy!! I have a twinair and love it. Driving is seriously fun again! Also had a puma who I was very attached to - had wanted one since I saw the Steve mcqueen adverts all those years ago!

Even I didn't know about the special oil... So I big thumbs up for that!

Enjoy!!!

I wouldn't call it a special oil, and you don't necessarily have to buy Selenia, you just have to make sure the oil you use is the right spec (as always). Can't recall the info exactly but it's been discussed in depth here on the forum, and the manual should list it as well.

Congrats on joining the 500 family :D

Correct about the correct grade + spec.

I asked my supplying FIAT dealer for a service quote,
for conventional motors they use Castrol ( we're 30 mins from Swindon = HQ)

for the Twinairs they "have to use Selenia",

I go to an Alfa./ FIAT specialist, as I know they will actually perform the servicing I pay for ; - }

the actuator unit is currently circa £1000,
I would rather pay an extra £15 a year for the exact oil the motor was designed to use : - }
