I know many of you will have the iPhone 4S or will be planning on purchasing future Apple iPhones and incase you haven't heard a major feature Apple plans on bringing to the platform shortly in iOS 6 is Siri Car Integration.

Now this basically involves the phone paired over Bluetooth and you, for example, double click the media button and the phone - while in 'car mode' - will respond and do what you want, call, text, sat nav directions etc etc. I'm hoping there's a way we can get fiat to recognise and add this feature via a firmware update. It should be exceedingly simple to do so. Sorry to all android/windows users but it's a pretty nice feature I would like to see in my car.
Having a double click function to access this would also allow non-Siri users to use the current functions and remain totally unaffected.

If you haven't heard about it go check out Apple's iOS 6 page, the update should be out this month (September).

Thoughts?

I beleive they have stopped updating the old B&M, only newer cars seem to be getting updates. So might be all for nothing on the older cars. Will be getting the new iPhone so will have to see.. I may have to get a new stereo for it all to work though.

Theoretically speaking Siri works with bluetooth systems anyway as a form of input. The problem is you still have to lean over and hold the home button on the phone, which is dangerous. The 'car intregrarion' bit litteraly means that! they will be intergrating Siri buttons onto steering wheels and adding docks on your dashboard. So once your phone is connected to the in car connection device, you will be able to press a button on your steering wheel and do everything. Including text your girlfriend that your on the way home or get directions in the sat nav without even taking your hands off the wheel. You could even make siri tell you the latest score of your favourite footy team. obviously you can still do the Usual things as well like listen to your iPod library and make calls etc. really clever idea. Basically siri will become your passenger, and you will never need to do anything again by hand. It will all be completely automated by voice. The future is coming.

News to me, the plugs will probably change as soon as they do it :p

Ironically enough they have changed today. The new iPhone and iPod touch devices will use a new dock connector called 'lightning'

There are some. Bug names involved with the Siri integration including GM (Vauxhal), BMW, Audi, Land Rober, Jaguar, Mercedes. No Fiat at the moment though.

I don't see why any manufacturer would lock in their 'convergence' system to a particular brand of phone. Should be using open standards like Bluetooth and micro USB for charging.

Saying that, it would require the phone manufacturers to adhere strictly to the bluetooth specification which rarely happens.

It doesn't lock the cars system to a single phone or brand, it's just a sort of specification that cars can use to support Apple, it's a pretty good idea.

I was using the new iOS 6 maps today driving to and from university, it was awesome, I only wish the windows button on my steering wheel activated Siri rather than the car's own system.

Does anyone know how to decompile the firmware? Been trying today but no luck, not really my area of expertise. I know it's written with M$ Windows Embedded Automotive 7. So I'm looking at rewritting it to launch Siri rather than the car's own system.

So anyone here capable of helping me do this?

Hi I have just installed io6 on my iPhone 4S, my fiat bravo 2007 plate is being delivered tomorrow, will I need to buy an adapter and if so which one, please don't be to tecy as I'm useless with all that!!!!! Xxxxxxxxxx

There is only one, you'll need it to use iPod, not iPhone via bluetooth for calls though.

I agree. Something tells me they won't do this.

Yes me but I'd rather scoop out my own eyeballs with a rusty tea spoon.

You're going about it all wrong, there's a perfectly good SDK out there for the Blue&Me system (google it) so all you need is to write an app to load onto Blue&Me (in the same manor as ecoDrive) that accesses functions on the iPhone (this depends on the SDK for the iPhone allowing access to Siri).

Well according to his:- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsemb...-and-me-with-windows-embedded-automotive.aspx

Fiat Blue&Me is running "Windows Automotive 4.1". This is the "home page" for developers of this system:-

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/develop/microsoft-auto-4-1-for-developers.aspx

I'm guessing you have to be a MSDN subscriber to get access. Unfortunately I'm not a programmer by trade any more, I'm a Network & Systems engineer so don't have a current subscription to MSDN.

I've sent an email to Fiat customer care from the Blue&Me website asking if it's available and where :D.
