Technical intermittent power steering failure/speedo problem

Hi
thanks, I have read some of the downloads, I can find 2 line drawings of the sensor and the logic but not its location yet.

Looking at the engine bay there is a thing that looks just like the drawing of the sensor at the front of the gearbox. It has 2 wires Red/White Blue/White IIRC and a very tight cable tie. Further back there is what looks like a 3 wire connector

I will keep looking

Hi
I enquired on the web about a speed sensor. The firm got back by phone to my wife while I was out and they seem to have sold her a steering column.

Is it possible that a failed steering column will cause the speedo to stop working when the brakes are applied like the OP said happened to him?

HI
thanks guys that is what I though

My Problem looks like speed pickup, cable, connector, ECU and my plan is to tackle it in that order

EDIT
just been outside (COLD) and can still not find the sensor, I have read through the downloads and can not find it and BIG Mick tells me there are 2 different ones. So more help still needed please--can someone point me to the page in the download where I can find an in situ picture please?

Open bonnet.

With knees tight against the bumper to the nearside of the number plate lean forward and look behind the gearbox.

You will see two shafts coming out, one to each wheel.

The thing between the shafts is the diff.

Refer to the picture above, but remember you are viewing that picture from the bulkhead side, not the bumper side.

Cheers

Hi
OK I think I found it, a HEX about 15mm with 3 wires coming out of it, connector about 9 inches away?

I still can not see the shafts, is the view up easier than looking down? OR maybe along the side after removing its wheel?

George

You won't see the sensor looking up.

Looks like there are 3 wires. black, red black, and pink black.

The black is an earth, well worth checking out with a continuity tester.

Again, this is all at Volume 4 of the Seicento Technical Manual, Section 1, Electronic Systems.pdf.

A full description at Volume 1/Section 2/7.Steering.pdf

And troubleshooting somewhere else.

Hi
thanks, my problem is I did not understand what I had DL. I will try to read the docs again. It is great that you guys are supporting me through this. I know what it is like cos I do the same on a motorcycle forum and get frustrated with newbes (SPL?) as well well.

Its my wife’s birthday so I need to do caring things, so will not get to the car for a day or two.

HI
I found a thing

three wires, seem to be Blue, Orange and Brown. The pink thing in the picture is a torch and the mesh thing looks like it may be the cat

Have I found it? If so I guess I need an open ended spanner to get it out, am I right?

Thanks

George

Yes. that's it. It plugs into an extender cable that goes near the front top part of the box.
