odd one this, mrs jai just come home, said the panda is starting to squeak a bit, on turning, esp right. took it out for a spin, and true to form, she wouldn't make a noise for me.

until the last right hand corner to the house, an almighty "SQUEAK!", from outside the cabin, somewhere up front.

nothing obvious under the bonnet, no leaks, etc. any ideas? is this the beginning of the dread steering woe!!?

Dont know much about this type of thing but could it be suspension related? I had a different type of noise which i was convinced was the PAS but turned out the majority was related to strut mounts. Mind you i did end up with a new steering shaft as that was the only way the problem was corrected fully. Also, may be a very long shot but could it be something stuck in a break pad? Just trying to think of cheap things lol!!!!

Probably a case of the rubber top mounts deteriorating if fiat manufactured condoms there would be a population explosion :p..the stilo had the same issue top mounts ware and you get the sqeeaaaakkkk..you have just had those suspension legs replaced as well..:chin: might be worth trying the lube trick first before you panic..:)

Hi Jai,
Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

It's just that I have a 2006 1.2 Dynamic and I have exactly the same. It's a very high pitched sort of metalic squeak, not too loud, but definately coming from the drivers side wheel (not the steering rack). Note: this is only audible when driving with the window open.

If driving dead straight or wheel turning left, no problem, but it only takes the very slightest deviation to the right and it sounds like a high pitched canary in there. Funnily enough, over about 40MPH and the squeak seems to go away.

The brake pads were replaced at the last service a few months ago (Fiat main dealer) so not sure if they can cause this - or is it a bearing of some description?

Thanks!

Thanks mate - might not be as bad as I feared then.

Trouble is, I wouldn't have a clue how to take brake pads out. I guess this is a job for a garage unless there are any idiot proof guides online anywhere?

hold your horses big dawg!!!!! it is very easy to change out the pads, i will be doing a guide when i get a chance, but the basics are:

remove wheel
on the lower part of the caliper is a bar, with a pin holding it in place
remove the pin (needle nose pliers) - do not lose this!!!!! use a magnetic bowl to keep it safe
pull the bar out - tap ith a hammer usually works
swing the caliper up - hold steady, second pair of hands are good here
pads are now exposed
pull them out - dusty so a face mask is good - blow off any crap
push the caliper pot back in (undoing the brake fluid reservior makes this easier) some people use a bit of wood with a g-clamp
push in new pads - copper grease on the backs
swing caliper down
push bar back in
re-insert pin
put wheel back on

do other side - of course!
try brakes carefully when you move off

Thanks Jai! I think that I'll wait until I have a few days when I don't need the car - as (even with your great instructions) I am sure to screw it up!
