Going back to the original subject about getting insurance prices down for young drivers, one thing to try is to add older experienced driver with a good record to the policy. Then the average risk is reduced and the price can come down.
I insured my seicento sx for my daughter to drive after passing her test last year and reduced the price from £1200 to about £1000 by adding my wife as a named driver too. This year i added my other daughter as a provisional and it has come down to £950!!!

Also if you are thinking about buying a Seicento the SX is a lot cheaper to insure than the Sporting but not a lot of difference to drive.

1.1 yes but if you get the 0.9 SX you will tell by a long shot especially on a hill or with weight in it

Don't make the mistake of taking up car insurance plans without shopping around to see whats on offer. I think the amount you mentioned sounds a bit too high so you need to do thorough research and choose a good insurance provider.

This is UK insurance though, not American insurance. Its not that high at all TBH in comparison to what some pay.
