The problem with this is does the cashier deserve the abuse they're going to get by not authorising the pump?

And it goes without saying that the police would have to attend, now if they get to my house 4 hours later when someone's threatened to burn my house down how long are they going to take to get to the petrol station!?

Dom

I get more abuse at work, refusing to serve people than I have when arresting/ticketing people on duty.

At work, my job is to serve people petrol, not do the work of the Police (although, if needed I would step in, but would expect anyone to in some cases).

On a side note, calls are graded differently, if the person was outside your house saying he was going to burn it down there and then, chances are they would come straight away. If the person isn't there, its not classed as needing a response straight away, and they'll come within xyz hours (different in each force).

But that's down to the forecourt to change the way they do things. A lot of the Asda forecourts I've visited are card payment only, with no cashiers on hand to be abused.
I also wonder at the logic of putting a youngster behind the till - sometimes on their own - when they can take many hundreds of pounds' worth of transactions whereas a small, quiet post office gets bulletproof glass and loads of security - even for a handful of transactions per day.
Also, forecourts could display huge signs stating that they have ANPR & will not authorise fuel for any vehicle not recognised.

Interesting that they take 4 hours to come when someone threatens to burn your house down and only 90 minutes to come when a neighbour moans about a bit of engine noise at 8pm (n)

As I said above for the first part.

Pay at Pump is good, but can't use them with fuel cards, and not with cash, which a lot of people still use.

I've often wondered why we haven't been robbed yet...we take nearly £100,000 a day. Sure it will happen one day, hopefully when I'm not working!

Exactly the reason why insurance costs so high mate :/ A majority of the payouts is due to the high cost of fraudulent cases. Seen a few in my time as a claim handler.
