Basically i've seen a car that is a bargain but only a bargain because it was a cat d....

I've typed in the reg number in my insurance database online and it gives me a quote but would the database take into account it was a cat d (i.e. is the quote valid and accurate)?

What has the damage/repair got to do with the cars insurance? A quote would be valid for that car whether it was a CAT D or not. Makes no difference unless the repair involved changing the appearance of the car from standard.

for some reason i was under the impression that when insuring a car you have to tell the insurance the fact it is perviou CAT D.

i understand what you sy though.

surely the fact t is a cat d means when they enter the carreg in their computer system they will find out all the details anyway?

my previous car was a cat d my fiat brava and by law you dont have to tell the insurance company thats what i was told all that happens is that if you claim and the car is written of again they take of 25% of the book value as its previously been paid out on. i told them my was a cat d and they wanted a copy of the current m.o.t and the previous prior to accident m.o.t as well just to prove the car is road worthy which i got from an m.o.t station

if its a cat d or cat c make sure it has a new m.o.t done after it was classed as a write off otherwise the current m.o.t is void and so will all other documents be

Cheers - i was just un certain around the whole thing - i had heard on another forum that certain insurance companies wouldn't insure a car that is a CAT C or D

Cheers for your help

TheInsurance companys know EVERYTHING about the car from the registration number. The RAC would not insure it

the initial quote will only tell them what the car is, once they take the insuranc eup they would look into it further, that is when they might call up a week later and say "hi, you have said your car has actually been in an accident" bla bla bla, or look into you and say "hi, i see you have actually had two accidents, you have only put one in the quote" etc
