Someone has damaged my bonnet and agreed to pay out of insurance.

Im trying to cover my back in case he says he wont pay once he gets the quote.

So can I find out who he is insured with? Or do I just ring my insurance.
Its the first time anything like this has happend to me.

Cheers
Adrian

Personally I think it would be best to go though your insurance, it wont effect your insurance (at least I dont think?), and there wont be the chance of them not paying etc.

Even though it wasn't your fault, as soon as you notify your insurance, you have to declair it when you renew for the next few years, and you get charged, even though it's a none fault claim, because of the admin your insurance puts into covering their costs. It really ****s me off!

You allowed a reasonable amount of time. I'd get quote, give it to them, and any sign of them playing up, contact THEIR insurance company. Only contact yours if things get messy (y)

His insurance want to write my car off and give me £485.00 for it. Looks like I loose

What, for your Bravo?

Take them to small claims court. His fault, they cover his arse. They legally have an obligation to get you to where you were before the accident. Thus they need to give you enough to get a Bravo exactly the same colour and mileage etc, and cover any costs of courtesy car until you manage to source one, and cover the cost of you sourcing one and collecting it etc (y)

This is what insurance companies don't like people to know. :p

Currently doing this with dad's Mint Panda that some tit was scrapped the side of. They'll probably try and pay out £300 for it, even though it's valued at about £1100, and then there is the fact that they're so rare in the spec and condition that the length of time it would take to source one that they'd need to lend a cover car would cost them feck loads!

So looks like we're going to be taking them to small claims to recover costs of repair in full (about £1500 inc time and agro :)).

Ta for that advice MEP

Ive phoned my insurance and they can get it repaired then claim their cost back off his insurance.

Problem now is they wont let me use the bodyshop of my choice. Understandable in way, but id prefer to use the bodyshop I know and trust. I know there work is top quality and will last.

Can I convince my insurance to let me use my preferred bodyshop?
Or do I pay for it myself and go through small claims court?
Or am I being a gheyer and should just let the approved bodyshop sort it?

Im really pissed off this neighbour has reversed into my car twice, and best he can do is write it off through his insurance for £495.00

Its an insult to how well the car runs and is looked after. If it was me that reversed into his car I would have been very ashamed and paid up no messing.

iirc your within your right to use a bodyshop of your choice rather than the insurance company insisting on using one of their own (can't supply the info to back this up though), and a local body shop mentions this in all of their ad's!

What has the other person said about fixing it themself? You've now notified your insurance so I'd go through it with them, but this is now going to bump renewal up even though it wasn't your fault. And you'll have to cough up excess until the 3rd parties insurance has admitted liability :(
