Hi guys, just a few quick questions as I'm going to be installing my old sub and amp into my new car soon, I've bought a line out converter to convert the signal from my rear speakers but need to know;

1) What happens to the remote wire on the amp? Where should this be wired into, just something that comes on with the ignition?
2) Will I come across any problems with my car resetting anything if I disconnect the battery to install the power lead?
3) Does anyone know where the Earth is on a 500?
4) With the RCA converter it tells me to connect the Earth lead, the left negative and the right channel input together, and then Earth all of them to the head unit. Is this right? I've never heard of this being done before!

Any help is much appreciated (y)

okay for 1 you must connect it to your headunits remote/electrical antenna out it gives +12volt when the headunit is switched on
2)if your original headunit has a radio code you must have it with you after reset you must enter it again to run it ;)
3)earth can be anywhere in the car but the easiest one is under a seatbelt handling bolt you can sand it down a little bit to make it work better.
4)i've never heard it too

Generally most people wire this into an ignition switched live if there is no remote out on the HU. You might be able to find a pinout for the HU and find the remote out, but I doubt it.

Shouldn't do. I have done it hundreds of times with my GP. Even the radio code now days is tied to the body computer so you don't even need to put that back in!
3) Does anyone know where the Earth is on a 500?
Not too sure what you mean on this. The whole body is the earth. Bolt an amp earth to a nice hefty bolt. Preferably one that is direct to body and not attached to a bracket. I bolted my amp earth to the boot catch bolt. Make sure you sand the paint back where the terminal goes for best conductivity though.
4) With the RCA converter it tells me to connect the Earth lead, the left negative and the right channel input together, and then Earth all of them to the head unit. Is this right? I've never heard of this being done before!
No idea on this one tbh. Sorry. I would imagine it is just using a common ground for both speakers. So connect both of the negs together then earth back to the left and right neg on the HU. But as I said, I could be way off the mark!!

Any help is much appreciated (y)

No doubt someone will beat me!! - But here goes mate! Hope it helps

Edit: Knew i'd get beaten. Btw. I answered question 1 as if you were using the factory HU. I take it you are, as you wouldn't be using line level converters otherwise.

Cheers for the help guys, sorry about the confusion about the grounding on the 500 I meant the best place for it, some cars have better areas than others. On my old Astra there was an area behind the rear light that I could sand down and attach the wire to easily without causing any trouble or taking the car apart. I'll just hunt around in the boot. (y)

BTW one more question, if I wire the remote into an existing wire so it comes on with the HU would it need to be fused?

if it's a proper remote out, then they generally are not fused.

What you got planned then for your install?

:D by the way you can also connect remote lead to a button that has +12v so you can activate or deactivate by pressing it ;)

Thanks, I've never fused a remote out before, but that's because I've always had aftermarket HUs, I've never tried it with a factory one!

It's not really a big install or anything, I'm just re-fitting my old Mutant sub and amp. The sub is going to be put into it's old box, but re-carpetted to match the carpet in my boot and then the amp is just going to be either attached to the sub box or on the boot floor at the side or infront of the sub, depending on the space available.

Then eventually the amp cover will be resprayed the same colour as the car and a '500' logo will be stuck on.

Regarding the 12v switch, I wouldn't trust myself to turn it off every time I left the car, I'd end up draining the battery over and over.

i unterstand it ;) and also an idea but you may connect it to ignition maybe if you can't find any other place to connect ;)
