Technical Inner CV boot gearbox side

Anyone ever replaced the CV boot on the gearbox side?
Do I have to remove the whole shaft? I know how to disconnect from the box but not sure on changing the boot.
It has a knuckle contraception halfway on the shaft too.
Its not split yet...just looks like the start..and no doubt the not tester will prod it to encourage a split?!
