Injector issue?

Hi all, I have a 2001 Punto that is misfiring. I have looked at a few posts to get some ideas. I have changed the plugs and HT leads but still no joy. I took each lead off in turn with engine running and on the first cylinder there is no change, all others the engine stalls. You can hear the coil clicking and there is a good spark at the plug. So is it fuel injector? I have tested them all in situ with a multimeter and I get about 15 to 16 ohms on all of them is this one blocked? Any help would be much appreciated.

Just to update I got a fuel rail from breakers with four injectors tried one and still no change. How can I test if power is getting to the injector?

The injectors make quite a loud clicking noise when the engine is being turned over or running, so if you put the handle of a long screwdriver against your ear and put the end of the blade on the injectors you should hear a distinct click as it goes off.

Thanks for your reply Judderbar. Yes I have seen this done via You Tube but have not done it to my engine. With the engine running I have pulled the connector off the suspect injector and there is no change. However, if I pull any of the other three the engine dies. So my thought now is that there is no power getting to this injector but why? There is definitely a spark to the plug but it looks like no fuel. How can I test for voltage at the connector with my multimeter? Do I need someone to crank the engine as this is an intermittent burst of power and not constant. Hope this helps. Cheers......

Ok so did the screwdriver test and the injector is clicking away merrily so that just leaves.......
Blown Head Gasket?
Broken Valve?
Hole in Piston?
No obvious signs of leaks around the cylinder head just the usual gunk. I don`t have the equipment to do a compression test.

You can do an electrical compression test using stuff you probably have already in your home. I did this on my car and if nothing else it was quite interesting to do.

The idea is the crankshaft sensor is something like a microphone electrically so you can feed the sensors output into a laptop microphone input and then use some free sound software to look at the wave the sensor produces. On my car the crankshaft sensor wheel has 60 teeth with 2 missing so when you look at the sound file you see 58 square waves and two missing for each rotation. Using the software you can accurately measure the different speeds the engine cranks over for each cylinder just by physically measuring the distance between each rotation using a ruler pressed to the screen. I used the audacity program to do this.

On the other hand you can buy a compression tester guage for about a tenner or ask around and see who will lend one to you.

Hi judderbar, I have spoken to a mechanic with 38 years experience under his belt and he doesn't think by the description I gave him that this is a head gasket issue and advised me to try Steel Seal a product designed to fix blown gaskets. He said he had heard good reviews about it and if it was simply a blown head gasket then this would fix it, if not it was something more serious. It did not work and the engine is making a bad rattling noise. I think the rings have gone. I have decided to scrap the vehicle as the clutch is going and the cam belt needs doing. So I bought a Peugeot 206 of the same age. Out of the frying pan and into the fire! Thanks for your help my friend.

One of my injectors taps like feck. Really loud. Going to try a trick off YouTube using carb cleaner and connecting it to the battery and flushing it through once I've got time, oh and the tool to take the injector off.

Try some injector cleaner in the petrol tank first
