Hi, don't have a brava, sorry..... I have mk2 8v punto elx. Just browsin the forum and it seem a bit more technically with it than the punto forums. Hope someone will help.

When the car idles the rev counter is steady but the engine sorta shudders, sometimes slightly, somtimes really bad - it is really starting to p*ss me off. The car also misfires occassionaly - its been back to Fiat a few times, various dealers have said nothing's wrong, though eventually got new sparks + leads (under warranty - even the sparks!)after the EOBD light stayed on. At the moment the car is performing really well (almost too well!?)it's just the shudder at idle plus the now very occasional hesitation or misfire.

If one of the cylinders wasn't firing would it be obvious, performance wise? Also how do I test the coils? I have a digital multimeter (just not the know how!). I'd appreciate some advice, thanks in advance,
Mick

bravO!

Most sincere and humble apologies, I haven't got a BravO either,

no advice then?

Re: bravO!

Don't appologise to the troll - you could have meant brava anyway!

Sorry tho, no help with your problem :(

RE: info please.......

This happens on most of cars with air conditioning, the car needs to do something whilst the air conditioning is running so it doesn't knacker the battery. My car does it too even when the air con isn't going.

Re: RE: info please.......

1. Have your Idle Air Valve Control cleaned.
2. If that does no difference then get the injectors cleaned.
3. Check your distributor.

...tell me how you get on.

thanks but...

.....no aircon!, oh the stress.................

Judder

It could be damaged leads. I have had that problem in the past on a couple of cars.
Could try new plugs too.

don't worry about it

driven loads of punto's its a common thing they all do it. its seems a bigger problem in the punto because it is so bloody quiet when it is idling. plus you cant feel any vibrations through the cabin, steering wheel etc so you do notice the odd shakes from the engine. not ever had one misfire though

It sounds perfectly healthy. Very few 4cly cars idle smoothly and they will miss a beat every so often.

sorry, put up with it or get something with 6clys or more.

What RPM does it idle at?

Re: Re: info please.....

Sometimes when the radiator fan switched on, engine power is sucked up making the engine splutter for an instant. Considered that?

Thanks for the response & advice. The cars running v. well (touch that fckin great big piece of wood!!!). I guess I'm maybe getting a bit fixated with the problem - always expecting something to need fixing.

Cheers
Mick

(not BravO, punto...)

Re: cheers folks
