Personally I don't like K&N. There stuff is overpriced and all cotton filters need very regular cleaning. Also if you look at the K&N kits, there are lots of sharp corners which sorta defeats the entire point of having the free flow filter.
Some of the Pipercross stuff (the PK700 universal filters, the Viper etc..) have really nice smooth inlet trumpets which does make a BIG difference BUT you will be looking at about 2-3 times the cost of the K&N if you go for the Viper as you will need the filter plus connecting hoses.
If you want a simple kit where everything comes in one box then maybe go for the K&N but if you are prepared to put a bit more time. money and effort into it then go for something else.
