Induction Kit Question?????

Does the Piper X Viper Induction kit fit onto a Fiat Bravo 1.8, since i've looked on the internet and i can only find them for HGT's only.

They cost £250 is that about right or are they cheaper.

I'd be greatful if anyone knows of any websites that do a Viper Kit for a 1.8 Bravo, Thanks.

Also this Ecotek valve, can it be used in conjunction with the Viper Induction Kit?

A question has been puzzling me for a while. Young boyracers in there Modded Nova's have somehow managed to make there cars sound alot meaner and give it a nice tone. Your probably gonna say its the exhausts but the grunt comes from the engine. Is that due to a aftermarket air filter or is it just the exhaust in the 1st place.

As always any posts would be appreciated.

Pipercross don't yet make a specific viper kit for anything other than the HGT.
However you'll be able to buy a universal one with the right dimensions. I think you need one with a 70mm engine side inlet, but check this be measuring your inlet manifold piping.

Yes the Ecotek can be used with a viper.

If the sound is coming from the engine end then yes it's most likely due to an induction kit (unless that modded nova your sat next to at the traffic lights has a rover v8 under the bonnet :))

Re: Re: Induction Kit Question?????

I was wondering about fitting an induction kit:

• Exaclty what parts of the exsisting ducting do you remove? Do you leave the front peice in the feed air to the Intake? (Anyone with a pic?)

• Is there any real difference in Getting a universal Kit rather than an expensive jobby? (Apart from obviously the tubing itself) Surely if you could buy a peice of tube of the same dimensions the universal ones would work the same?

• Can you just fit a universal filter to the end of the main tube that leads down the right-hand-side of the engine? How would this be different from a more expensive one? Surely it would act the same?

Sorry to sound dumb, I'm just trying to justify spending £100+ when universal ones cost £30+ !
Any Help appreciated

Cheers

Re: Re: Re: Induction Kit Question?????

Assuming you've got a 1.8 or 2.0 (as the air boxes and pipes are similar), you remove the air box, and the small bit of pipe between the airbox and the air flow meter.
I've left in the front piece of the air feed to supply the filter with some directed cold air.
See the pic below, it should give you an idea.

No theres no difference when buying a universal filter. Just means you won't get the proper instructions, but it's easy to do anyway.
Just make sure you get one of a suitalbe size with the correct neck size to connect to your existing piping.

This is how the pipercross will look like on a 1.4 12v

Universall filters will give you a proper sound too, but pipercross filters will give you the best air filtering combined with a good sound.

Marks like K&N and most universall filters won't clean the air properly so your engine suffers a bit more

Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction Kit Question?????

Has to be said, the pic there of a filter directly bolted to the engine is possibly the worst you can do.

If will be sucking in alot of hot air from the engine bay and will most likely give worse power than the normal airbox.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction Kit Question?????

Thanks for the response.

On the pic you posted Si, Where did you get the blue piping? Is it a very specific shape? Do you remember the diameter by any chance? I've got a 1.6 but it looks similar in that area.

Could I not use the exsisting piping for that part?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction Kit Question?????

For the 1.6 (I've got one!) you need 70mm ID pipe. Samco will do this BUT its chuffin expensive and samco have problems actually making the stuff at the mo so you'll be lucky to get it. :)

You can use the existing pipe but its lumpy and horrible and won't get you much. The prob with the 1.6 is its a long way from the throttle to the filter box. You are looking at £30-40 just for hose. :(

If my filter ever shows up from Pipercross I'll post a pic of my setup. I'm using a custom fabricated stainless steel pipe. Should look good when I get around to polishing it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Induction Kit Question?????

The Samco hosing on mine comes with the HGT Pipercross kit all included in the price (around £75.).
