Hey,

On friday I took my punto to kwick-fit for an MOT and it failed, total cost to repair would be £700 a bit of a shock for anyone especially as the car is only worth £350 or so. Its a 1998 SX 60 1.2. Heres what it failed on:

Rear number plate - £15
Seatbelt anchor - ?
Needs new headlamps (if adjustment or brighter bulbs dont work) - £120 each
The bush pins, arms have had it - £210 each
Welding under the passenger side - ?

Couple of other bits too, I think they are definatly trying to rip me off ive seen the bush arms on ebay for £60 each and girlfriends dad can try and help me fit them in and do the welding and other bits but i cant help but think they were trying to rip me off big style? Any thoughts and anyone know if the arms are a hard job to do?

Many Thanks!

welcome to the forum. never go to kwick-fit for anything.

Rear number plate -cheaper on ebay.
Seatbelt anchor - ? what is wrong with it?
Needs new headlamps (if adjustment or brighter bulbs dont work) - £120 each what did they say is wrong with them? £15 each at a scrappy
The bush pins, arms have had it - £210 each do you mean rear radius are bushes? they are £15 each
Welding under the passenger side - ? get indepent quotes from some smaller garages for that

seat bellt anchor is rusted, headlamps arnt emitting enough light, yes the radius bushes.
I know the parts can be bought cheaply but the labour for them was so much and the welding i can get done for nothing i just wondered if that was normal pricing or they were taking me for a ride (excuse the pun) But thanks for your help think ebay will be best bet then i just wish i was more handy with cars would save alot of money!

Use a local garage that your mates or your family use. Don't go to the big boys who don't really want your business. They just want to test cars and put new bits on them. After all they are Fitters not mechanics.
