Technical I'm ashamed to ask this but no guy can answer!!!

Hi, I got my first car yesterday, and its a 1.2 Grande Punto Active. However, I wasn't shown a few things, e.g. How to unlock the petrol cap. Now, I am female, and I am blonde, but please dont laugh at me, I spent 5 minutes trying to get it off this evening, and in the end some bloke at the petrol station did it for me, then went back in his car before I could say thanks or anything.

So If anyone could help me!?!:idea:

Key in the lock on the cap hold cap steady and turn key. cap should then twist off. Same thing in reverse to put it back on.

put the key into the cap
hold the cap while you turn the key, then turn the cap in the same direction when the key stops.
to replce to it is reverse.

little bit fiddly but easy when you know how!

you got a brand new car and didint get a manual? thats tantamount to them not giving you the keys

Now I'm the one confused.


Edit: If you didn't get a manual did you get the service book? If not I'd see your dealer about getting you them.

you have to pay to get a locking fuel cap. Its the same with Pandas, and i think some stilos

No you don't. I don't think I have seen a GP without a locking cap.

No you don't. I don't think I have seen a GP without a locking cap.

Far as i can tell, its a 20quid option. thats from info on here too

i myself did stood there 4 a wile lol at the petrol station

Simply push in then force it left or counter clock wise (its abit stiff)

Mine came without a key....

the cap twists to the left (anti clockwise)its a bit tight but it will undo in about 1/4 turn...

to refit put it in the hole then turn right once its tight enough it will free wheel and click,,,

see what happens say your female and blonde and all the chaps flock to your aid

I felt so stupid earlier on though, and even more for asking it, but your advice is much appreciated.

Now I have to sort out my CD player.

It turns on, the stations tune in and the CD plays but there is no sound

one other thing to check if the cars new and thats the oil level.... Grande puntos can use a bit of oil especially when new check when the cars cold and its on flat ground......


go to the passenger door..

open it

look on the left under the glove box near the door frame there is a black lever. pull it from the bottom towards you and the bonnet will pop up one click.

now go to the front and lift the bonnet with your left hand (it will come up about 1inch) run your right hand in the gap around the center (where the fiat badge is on the grill you will feel a flat bar push that up and you can then lift the bonnet hold it up you will see a stay (metal rod) cliped down on the right (passenger side) this unclips and locates in the hole in the bonnet to keep it open.....

next look at that lump of metal in the middle on the back left corner (drivers side) you will see a red ringpull before you pull it follow it to where it goes into the engine (so you know where to put it back in when you have pulled it out :idea pull it out and wipe it clean on a bit of rag/ kitchen roll next put it back in the hole leave 5 seconds or so then pull it out you should see oil on the cross hatched area of the dipstick if its below the cross hatch its too low and needs topping up ASAP....

whilst your at it you will find the brake fluid level on the top left (drivers side)

the screen wash on the bottom right near the passenger side headlamp (blue cap about the size of a milk bottle top) with a funny blue strainer underneath (this stops grit getting in and blocking your jets...

No, and I have muted and unmuted it a few times to see if that did anything
