Hi all

I have a 98 1.4sx bravo.

A few weeks ago my car was very slugish to start as is the batt was low on power... but I know it wasnt. Then once day it finally wouldnt start at all. I got a jump and the problem actually seemed to get better.

Then last weekend after a short 40 mile drive things got worse, The ignition now makes some wierd ticking noise ( comming from behind the dash) and some times when i try and start it first time it makes a god awful screaching noise...then it starts on the second attempt

Any advice?

Alan

Dead starter by the sounds of it. How old is the car, how many miles and how long since you had a new battery?

Re: Re: Re: Ignition problem ?

When it makes the ticking noise, is the engine actually turning over?

Re: Re: Ignition problem ?

its a 1998 there is 78000 on the clock. The batt should be ok... had it tested.

Of the fanbelt is slipping.

Does it screech AFTER its started or while it starting?

Probably the starter drive pinion is not pulled out while cranking.
-need to remove starter and check flywheel ring gear teeth and starter drive pinion teeth.
