Technical Idle speed on 899cc

Hi all,

The "project du soleil" continues, with the new engine and gearbox in - things are going well and I've got it running.

I've got a bit of a problem though - as soon as it warms up the idle hunts for a bit, then the warmer it is the faster the idle is..

I've changed the MAF, and swapped over the throttle body, but it's made sod-all difference.. There's a hell of a clicking sound coming from the throttle body but apparently "that's normal"...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Was it an engine upgrade to 1.1.....oor just swapped it for another 899cc?

Just a direct 899cc swap.. Boring I know!

Check for air leaks, particularly around the TB spacer area.

Thats where I know nothing....but I do know a hell of a clicking sound isn't normal from the TB lol

As to what it is, if it rises as temp rises, it must be something to do with the idle valve...as a leak would leak as much when cold.

Remove or replace the stepper, adn check all the wiring to it and the contacts

i've got a simular prob with my zetec a the min, thats is as far as i'm aware is the iscv, but will find out tomorrow when i fit the new one. so i'd say thats what it probbaly is too.

Yeah, ford idle valves are renowned for it! the steppers seem a lot more reliable...but i can't think of many other reasons the OP has those symptoms.

When you say 'spacer' do you mean the small metal plate? My Cinq hunts while idling and I can't find a leak in the hoses/pipes so I'm thinking it must be the throttle body...

Yup, the plate between the rocker box and the TB. It needs to be sealed on both sides.
