I've almost finished stripping down the engine I bought from Abarth 695 and I'm trying to identify the cam that's fitted to the engine. The markings on the cam are 4, a squiggly line, 5, then below another squiggly line, followed by 07. Can anyone shed any light on what these mean?

Matt,

Beyond me, I'm sorry. Unless you can find out where it originally came from and then hope that they kept records of what the stampings mean, your only other option will be to get it professionally measured by someone who does this sort of thing - eg: tuners who prepare race cars etc.

For comparison, I dug out the original cam that was fitted to my standard 500F and it's marked 'SF' and '8' between the lobes on one side and 'C' and 'FIAT' on the other side.

Out of interest, I've also attached a photo of a spare inlet cam from one of my other cars. It is identified with a factory stamp that can be quite easily cross referenced.

The other marks on camshafts are usually notches that are used for static timing.

Someone else may be able to help.

Yours Olympically,
Chris

PS: Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi ..... (if that's the best battlecry we can come up with, we deserved to be transported :))
