Jumped in my car last night after coming out Tesco, started it up and it sounded a bit different, I noticed engine management light on and the temp gage sitting at the coldest setting which looked unusual. went home checked the water level seemed fine. water seemed to be circulating ok as the hoses were all hot. The heater seems to be working ok as it still heats the car but the temp gage doesn't go about 1/4 where it normally sits halfway. I have ordered a thermostat and will fit it later but just wondered and bloody hoping the head gasket isn't away. Any one else had this

Hi, sounds like a thermostat issue, BUT maybe it's a temp-sensor / gauge fault.

1stly.. see how long it takes to get warm from COLD -
if the thermostat is dodgy it SHOULD take longer than the standard = 1 mile / 5 minutes to show / feel warm

small petrol ones are cheap + easy, diesels are more expensive( can be harder to get to)

when was the coolant last changed ?
