Technical Idea 1.4 engine light on NO CODES ?????

Hi all and HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a female garage mechanic and one of my customers has come in with the EML comming on intermittently and engine failiure on the display.

However I have read the codes and there arn't any ?????
I am using a snap on ethos which has no comunication problems with the car.

I have also looked in the body control module and there is a code ref the interior light.
My thoughts are the dash itself might be going faulty ??? ala Audis ?

Any Idea's anyone (excuse the pun)

No it runs just fine , but its driving the owner mad,
