disconnect the battery for an hour and it will reset the ECU. if that doesn't work, get it to Fiat for a diagnostic check up(y)

i would take it for a diagnostic, is it on all the time or just now and again coz it might just be an electrical fault.

as far as you ecomony goes for a 1.6 i think its about 34mpg you should get, it does drink the fuel when "town driving" but when your onthe motorway then it should be a bit more easy on the juice.

How long have you had the car for?

about 2 months only
it is making 200km / 20L at high ways
and about 100km/20L at traffics
is this normal

1.6 economy as stated in the manual is as follows:

Urban 26.8mpg
Extra Urban 47.3mpg
Average 36.9mpg

your figures work out at 22.28mpg and 13.64mpg.

Yours are very low compared to what the should be. As SurfinFella has suggested, try an ECU reset first. If this fails I would get it to Fiat for a diagnostics check.

Figures taken from here: http://www.bravo-guide.co.uk/run-a-bravo.htm#part7

i had the same problem with marea 20 valve early models have a lamba sensor that have grooves in and they soot up just took mine out and cleaned it and (y) all ok mine;s a 1997 model

It sounds as if the diagnostic system has found a fault with one of the sensors and has reverted back to a default set of settings. It will run the engine on settings that are known to be "safe". This means that the engine will be running too "rich" and using more petrol. Try the battery tip as suggested. if that doesn't work then you'll need to go to a garage that can plug into your car's computer.
