General i think my engine is fooked!

hey guys!

i have a 1.8 weekend. and the engine has just started making this awful, loud and hollow sound!even if you gently tap the acceleration pedal it sounds like a screaming rocket!my bro thought it was my dads series 2 land rover when i started it up!thats how bad it is. do you think it could be the exhaust?

Put the palm of your hand over the end of the exhaust with it ticking over and listen for gas escaping, if pressure builds up the exhaust isnt leaking.

Last timeI had a car making a souns like that I'd bent a conrod and broken the crank. :devil:

It's a hard one to judge with just a description of a sound. Check your exhaust seal like Ffoxy suggests if it's fine do you think you could record and upload the sound?

especially when the description doesn't say which side of the engine bay the noise appears to be coming from, or if its high pitched, or if the tone changes with rpm, or what you were doing when it started doing it etc etc etc. any extra info at all makes it much easier.

check the engine oil level. if its dry it can be come very noisey (and very buggered very quickly)

ok, there was a slight hole, but fixed with gun gum from halfords- 5 quid
