And need some more info... Mk2 1372cc

I had the camshaft removed from the cylinder head on replacing the h/gasket & fitting a new timing belt. I NEVER smeared the buckets with grease to make the process easier on putting the cam box back on the head - I also removed the shims from the buckets and wiped the oil , making sure they "turn" freely on the buckets. The only thing i did right it seems is keeping the shims & buckets in their correct places on removal/refitting. THE NOISE THEY MAKE AFTER THE WHOLE OP IS DRIVING ME NUTS !

Is there really no other easier way without the "special tool" to remove/adjust/re -arrange the shims - except for loosening, withdrawing the timing belt and lifting off the whole cam box?

The timing belt tension pulley is making a "dry sound" noise, you recommend I fit a new one?

Aleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeex -

You need the tool, or to get creative with a some sort of leaver.
