Hi group,

Sorry couldn't make the last meet as I pranged my car (again). I need to purchase excellent sports brakes and callipers. Any ideas of makes and costs?

Please help

Cheers

Anthony

Which Bravo have you got Ant?

A few of the modded fiat guys are gonna be meeting up again in about 2 weeks if you fancy that?

I've got a set of brembos and big vented disks sat in the work shop at home. Waiting to go on car though.

And The cars currently having the read drums converted to disks. I'll get some pics up when its done.

If you want a cheaper option than the above I currently have EBC greenstuff pads and Turbo Grooved Disks. Very good value for money too

Stopping

Now then Rob,

I would love to meet up with you guys but my 80SX is very shamefull at the moment due to driving around on steel rims with no covers. My Alloys are knackered and the council are replacing them.

I drive at the moment a 80SX 1.2 16V with a K&N. It's not the Tofeo one just a standard.....

Where is the next meet as I would like to come as longs as it is not miles away.....I'm in Derby

Catcha

Re: Re: I Need to Stop

i got the same problem but i have been lucky not to prang my car but i know that it will happen sooner than later the abs brakes on my car are so bad i got the 1.8 hlx bravo and i know my miss's suffers from the same prob i do in her Punto GT Turbo must just be that the italins dont think about stopping :)
i like the sound of having the rear drum converted to disc over drums how much are u looking at to do that and having better calipers fitted too and good ones to go for and bad ones to steer clear of i will start the bad list
Fiat factory fitted brakes
any ideas on price and makes as im hopping to have some work done to make me car go faster and i think this is a big must for anybody thinking of doin that to there fiat
"Do Your Brakes First" :)
it is cheaper in the long run lol

Re: Re: Re: I Need to Stop

Guys, doing a rear brake disc/hub conversion isn't really going to improve your braking performance.
You'd be better off just fitting a good set of brake pads up front, the Mintex ones come highly rated.

Re: Re: Re: Re: I Need to Stop

I agree, the rear wheels basically stop the fuel tank scraping on the ground and a disk conversion is either going to lead to rear wheel lockups (and possibly you losing control) or will do nothing at all.

OK, they do look ALOT better than drums when you have alloys though. :)

Best bet is to turn your attention to the front brakes, either mintex or red-dot pads and some grooved disks, not drilled ones though as they crack.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I Need to Stop

The biggest problem I have with the 1.2 is the tendency for the front wheels to lock up when braking in wet conditions.

The brakes are fine, but there's not much weight over the front wheels. I found that decent tyres make a huge difference (the Firestones it came with are garbage).

Mind you, the brakes do fade a bit when driving through Milton Keynes.

Brakes

I agree with the previous posts. There is no point doing the rears.
On my race car, the rear has standard drums with standard pads, plus the bias has been moved forward so the rears do even less.
The fronts have been uprated, as its the front that does all the work.
When you brake hard the back goes light and locks up the rear and flat spots the tyres, do it on a road car and it will most likely spin if the rears lock.

Re: Brakes

Cheers for your comments guys but the jobs already half done the rear disks should be finished for tomorrow. My breaks are already uprated upfront so this is the next step in breaking for me. The next step after that is fitting the big brembos and V large vented disks that have been sat in my workshop for the last month!

I'll be able to tell you the results of the rear disks for the end of this week. Though it would seem that some of you guys have made your minds up before its even been tried!

Re: Re: Brakes

Sorry Rob, I'll put money on it not making any noticable difference. Like Ph1l I always ran bog standard rear drums and shoes on my rally car and generally had the bias wound about 90% to the front even on dry tarmac.

If you've got some big friends in the back and a boot full of bass bins, beer and luggage then disks will help as they will cool down quicker than drums and will take more abuse.

Does anyone know if the Bravo has a fixed bias valve or an inertia based one?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I Need to Stop

The 1.2 lump is really quite light! You should probably get quite good mileage out of sticky tyres on a 1.2.

This was always an issue with Hillman imps, no weight over the front made for very interesting braking and steering. :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I Need to Stop

Tom I've got a 1.6 not a 1.2 just incase there is any confusion! hehe

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I Need to Stop

I know, Dug has the 1.2 though. :)
