Then I went home I started to dismantle the old tailgate and put it on another, but I noticed that it does not close as it should. have you removed ALL controls = catch / latch / lock ?, also Supports / Gas Struts?,

I would love to try and help but although I know it's not your fault, I don't really understand a great deal of what you have said. I'm guessing..
Your back window was smashed, the police came and said you must have done it because the glass was outside your car, you got a new boot and it doesn't fit?

Yes it doesn't fit on the car. I bought another trunk with glass mounted from another car (the same model). The new trunk it doesn't fit. It doesn't close properly. Remain a distance between trunk and the body of the car. Do you understand? The distance is about 1,5 centimetres. It close, it opens, but dosen't fit properly.
how far out are we talking here, does it shut but not sit straight or are we so far out its not closing... Could you upload a few pictures??
Could it be as simple as the adjustable rubber stops need screwing further in, been so long since i opened my Punto's boot can't remember if they have adjustable bumps stops, most cars do though.

My Punto doesn't have adjustable bumps stops. And yes does it shut but not sit straight. You are right. It's a difference between down side of the trunk and the body of the car. I could get my fingers between the trunk and the body of the car. Do you understand? I could give you some pictures just tomorrow.
mmm interesting... i can't think of anything other than trying swapping over some of the fitting with your old ones... the hinges and catch etc.
put your old one back on and get the window from the new one put into it??
