Just got a ring from the garage and after stripping the engine down its the crank area, and he's quoted £500 + parts (minimum)...:(

So this is what i think my options are...

1. Let him fix it...£1000?

2. Get a HGT engine from a scrappie @ £??? + Fitting ?

3. Get a coupe turbo engine @ £???? + Fitting ?

I know the price to fix it...so i need to know

How much would i be looking at for a HGT engine from a scrappie or a recon one?

How much would i be looking at for a coupe engine...and what would i need if i find one?

someone on here is selling a 155 engine - have a look at the threads

Re: Re: I know whats wrong with my Engine....and its not good...

@ Tom - Yep Big End :(

@ Anon - I think Sy B is selling one, but he's having trouble with it at the moment, so i don't want to spend all that money to find that it's knacked...:)

Sy's engine has siezed :)

Daz, I'd be tempted to have it repaired as you could have the same or worse probs with a replacement engine.

Re: Re: Re: I know whats wrong with my Engine....and its not good...

I see your point Tom, but in Theory...lol...what parts would i need from a coupe to make it work in my car :) (You don't get oportunities like this very often, so i want to weigh up my options...)

Bit pricey for me, as i'd have to get the car home, and then pay £??? on top of the £1650 to get it fitted...

Re: Re: Re: Re: I know whats wrong with my Engine....and its not good...

Coupe turbo? Engine, turbo, manifolds, pipework, ECU, wiring (probably)...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I know whats wrong with my Engine....and its not good...

Did i also mention that the conrod broke on one of the pistons...apparently the noise is coming from the crank as it catches the snapped bit of the conrod...?

I asked him if he would just chop off the 5th cylinder and turn it into a 1.6...he just laughed at me (Not sure why...lol)

So to repair it i'm guessing i would be looking at probably a rebore, new pistons, crankshaft and cambelt change...not a cheap job...:(

Thats why i'm thinking of the engine change, and seeing as i will probably be cheaper to change the engine, i wanted to know the difference in cost from the HGT engine to the coupe engine...:)

To the rescue............155 HGT Engine

As some of you lot may know my mate smashed his hgt up just after he got a recon engine from FIAT. Its only covered about 1700 miles.Il ask him how much he wants, do you want the new box and clutch as well or just the lump?............

Re: To the rescue............155 HGT Engine

Hey Daz what's the weather like down there where you are mate

Re: Re: Re: To the rescue............155 HGT Engine

Looks like the ballance shaft has snapped!

Re: Re: Re: Re: To the rescue............155 HGT Engine

If (and if is the key word) you can get a motor from a good source, i.e. you know it's past life and it's kosher miles etc; then this will be your best option.

Usually, when something like this goes, it's the start of a money pit when it's innards have seen better days.

A recon or engine without an history, so to speak can also mean throwing good money after bad. As for the Copue engine, £££££££££££££ I'm afraid.

You're caught between the devil and the deap blue sea.

On the positive side, a cambelt change will be cheap now the engine is out!

Sorry - that was unkind.

Let me know how you get on??

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: To the rescue............155 HGT Engine

Just popped in to see him on the way home...

He reckons the main cause is the oil pump isnt working fully (something about a diaphram), and not pushing the oil through the crank enough...

This is why he thinks the conrod & big end bearing on the piston furthest away from the pump has gone...

He had a look at all the other big end bearings and they get better the closer they get to the pump...

And just to add insult to injury, he was gonna charge me £40 + parts to do the cambelt change...lol
