Anyone had problems with the hydaulic pump on a Fiat 500 Duallogic (1.2 8v?

The Fiat garage are quoting £700 to replace it. Its only just out of warrenty (09) reg.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I wonder if the pump motor fails due to the brushes wearing down, like Selespeed pumps did. Did a hammer tap get it working again?

If so, then perhaps an auto electrician can supply and fit new brushes. Cost would be about 1/10th of a new pump.

If the pump is leaking, that is a different story. Perhaps then a hydraulics specialist can help.

When my Duallogic box got busted all the gearbox oil fell out so it was a seal issue. The pump just kept on buzzing! Since it was fixed no problems, but i would assume this is a different problem. These boxes are too complicated maybe we should have just gotten a manual = ) Only two things can break with a manual, the clutch or the bearing = )

Sorry to hear about your news here.

First and foremost, I cannot offer any technical advice here! However, I'd recommend that you get in touch with Shop4Parts (see this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-ii/...lacement-dualogic-unit-gearbox.html?p=2819125).

Many people on here have used them in the past, and although the content of the above thread is not wholly relevant, it is certainly worth asking them how much the hydraulic pump would be to order. Then you can find out how much labour will be required to fit the part and you can work out whether the £700 is worth it or not. It's www.shop4parts.co.uk by the way.

I'm not saying your garage is necessarily trying to rip you off, but there are plenty of examples on here where people have been quoted silly money for various jobs.

Hope this helps anyway.

Thanks for all the comments so far. We have found out that the pump is drawing to much current, its ment to draw 16amps, when the Fiat garage tested it it drew 27amps. It normally has a 30Amp fuse on it however the AA fitted a 60A fuse, this has been working fine but the garage didnt like it much..... I tried to fit a 40Amp fuse but this blew within 1 mile!! As the pump is a unit in itself it need to be replaced, we have been unable to find any other garage apart from a main Fiat one that is able to quote for the job!!

My mother has an '09 Fiat 500 with the Duallogic transmission. It has now broken down 4 times on seperate occasions (15,000 km) and been towed back to the dealer each time. Cause has been a blown fuse on the electric hydraulic pump. When fuse is replaced and tested the pump is drawing normal current and shows no problem. Now liasing with Fiat in Italy through the importer.
