Mine does not want to start but gets there eventually! Is there anything I can do to improve matters? Once it gets going, it's happy enough, does seem to be running better but it might be my imagination.

When you say doesnt want to start? Refusing to fire or low battery power?

My misses is a sod for having everything on when she turns the key, heater, radio lights etc, and its the last thing off - the poor battery never gets a chance to charge :bang:

Remote Start Baby, never have to sit in the cold while it warms up ;)

Is making two strange soudns from under the bonnet:

1) I think be the big spinny thing which the Alternator belt sits on

2) I'm told might be a loose Clutch Ring (happend after the Gearbox Rebuild)

Tipo One.Six has survived 2 winters, I'm sure cars last longer if you drive them everyday.

As soon as I start my stilo its beep beep frost warning I think its trying to tell me its DAMN COLD.

if its the thrust bearing they should have replaced it while the box was out

The wee Punto doesn't seem to mind the cold, only prob I've had lately is the tailpipe falling off the other day due to rust  1 mins of bodging with the welder and it's attached again, bit noisier than it was before but better than buying a new exhaust system :D

showing up the need for lots of little jobs all over the place, the main one being the heater matrix and associated fans are not really doing anything, hence the ice inside the car, but on the good side...starts first time!

other than that she seems to like the cold air, but have to be careful when it's a little icy/damp, squeezing on the accelerator, bit of spin which isnt too good

I'm none too technical on this starting up business but I hear turning over noises and it takes 3-4 beats to start instead of straight away on the first beat. Fair pint about the battery though, might do my dad's favourite suggestion and sit and rev it to high heaven for a few mins with nothing using power.

My 19 year old Uno has been running fine. Did get some carburetor icing a couple of weeks back, but have now swapped over the boy racer K&N for the standard airbox with hot air pipe. No problems now.

Starts first time, I just give the accelerator pedal a couple of presses to squirt fuel in from the accelerator pump (one of the plus points of a carburetor!) A few twirls on the starter and it fires up fine, even last week at 3am when the temperature was down to -3.

Takes longer to warm up, and needs the choke open longer. But the cold air has seemed to make it run a bit smoother and it seems more revvy. Even a carburetor car likes some cold dense air (y)

Having flushed the cooling system out in 2004 and replaced the thermostat it still warms up correctly and pumps nice hot air into the interior (y)

Only problem is that it is filthy as I haven't had a chance to wash it for weeks. All that damn salt probably speeding up the rusting process :(

Don't "rev the nuts off" a cold engine unless you want it to break.

best wat to start your ar is fire it up and drive of as soon as possible. make sure you are giving your car good runs and not loads of short journeys as the battery gets hit hard.
try to get into the habit of switching of the heater, demister etc when you dont need them as its easy to leave them on.
weaknesses in the ignition system will rear up in poor weather.modern engines are good but still need the spark so plugs and leads in good condition are essential

edit:eek:h yeah and keep it under 3000 rpm as much as possible till warmed up and even more so for turbo drivers
