Technical How to replace power window switch

Hi all,
The drivers' side power window switch on my 2010 500 has packed up. It doesn't click or work the window on 'down' although it dopes seem to work on 'up'. It clicks and the motor cuts in.

So how do i remove the switch to replace it?

Grateful for your advice!

Are you "just" out of the 3 year warranty?

If you have had the car serviced at your local stealer, why not try asking them to replace under warranty. If you are out by only a month or two they might come to the party?

Thanks for the advice. I know you mean well, but I was hoping that amongst all these enthusiasts someone might actually know how to replace the window switch other than by taking it to the dealer.

Sometimes these jobs are surprisingly easy ... other cases they are just difficult beyond belief.

Is there anyone in this forum who actually knows anything about the cars?

Yes thanks Murky, finding someone who actually knows anything useful does seem like playing 'Dungeons and dragons' back in the1980's.

I'm still wondering whether 'take it to a dealer to fix' is meant to be patronising or helpful?

I will give benefit of the doubt as I'm sure everyone here is of the highest integrity.

Helpful I can assure you, there might be more to the problem then meets the eye. If it's under warranty then all the more reason.

Should be easy. Remove the shifter trim and access the switches from underneath.

Going to the dealer is really, really bad advice.:bang:

The car is NOT under warranty and i really don't know where that came from! So, how east is it to remove the shifter trim and access/remove the switch?

It dident come from anywhere - we just asked, it's called being helpful!

I haven't personally done it, but it should unclip without too much drama. You can use an old credit card or similar to pry it out. The HVAC panel also comes out with the same method. I've pulled mine a few times now, and between two access points you should be able to get to the switches.

Actually, the HVAC panel is probably easier to remove, it might be worth investigating first.

I recall a thread a while back outlining how to remove the gaiter, do a search and it should come up

You think Murkey? I did say the car is 2010 and it's now 2014. What do you think are the chances of this car being under warranty? and i saw no questions. Only statements and assumptions. away

Thank you. Are you saying that the switch pops out without having to dismantle the centre console? ie I just prise the old switch out in situ and pop another in it place?
