Remember that it wont have a servo so the pedal will need a good hard shove compared to other cars, not to say there isnt a problem of some kind though.

Carb'd Pandas do sound brilliant, I love the sound my 750 makes, much better than my CLX which is abit whiney:yuck: Sounds like you've got the Panda bug though, you'll be wanting another one in no time:p:D

haha I actually cant believe how good it is for a 1988 car.

Its got intermittant wipers! (ok not amazing-but not even a 1994 Peugeot 106 had that!)

5 gears!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With my car I got a ton of spares too, so I'm going to rock out a satin black bonnet for a while and have a private joke about all the chavs that get black bonnet'ed saxo's because they don't quite understand the trend :)

Hopefully I'll be buying a better carb paired with a cinq 1.1 sporting manifold on the other side - so that should spruce it up a little more.

Quite a few trips to Halfords tomorrow, I'm fitting some badass spotlights to the grill and fixing those snags.

huck. see my thread about inlet manifolds. i think a carb panda will flow better than a cinq sporting. if your making an exhaust. get an exaust manifold from a punto 6 engine, they offer better flow and help with torque

Great! I will check them out now.

What do you mean by a punto 6 is that a mk 6 or a 1.6?

Thanks :)

Let you know about the exhaust manifold. That's on the agenda for next week. Now I've snapped off one stud on Grumbles manifold and unlikely to remove the others intact, that forlorn Punto on the drive has 'donor' written all over it. Wonder what else will fit..
Congrats on the new car Alex, looking forward to seeing your progress(y)
Andrew.

haha thanks!

Looking forward to a few parcels next week, so I'll get some pictures up of its progress :)

-edit-

That link you gave me for the splitter has closed down or something! Just got my wallet out to buy it and I can't get on it anymore lol

Can you message me another link please?

Thanks :D

Is the Punto 60 exhaust manifold better than a Cinq sporting one?

No, not to my knowledge. I've never heard of or seen anyone fitting the 60 exhaust manifold as an upgrade. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if they were identical.

An aftermarket (e.g. Supersprint) 4-2-1 manifold will help with the torque. A 4-1 manifold will offer more in the higher rev range.

If you're talking about inlet manifolds and SPi, some Cento owners fit the Uno 45 inlet manifold as it appears to flow better than the stock Cento item. It does need port matching though. Bit immaterial if you're going MPi or carbed though.

The uno45 is, what i think, similar to the panda carbed models. i'v been looking at new inlet manis but dont want to find an uno one if the panda ones are the same, and i know some of the guys on here will hve some!

The carb'ed Uno 45 FIRE (not the ohv 903cc Uno 45) manifold is exactly the same as the Panda 999cc and Lancia Y10 999cc carb'ed FIRE models. It's different to the Cinquecento Sporting manifold and supposedly flows better hence the 'Cento owners fitting them. The Punto 60 manifold would I assume be virtually, if not totally, identical to the Punto 55 manifold. The Punto 55 shares the same 1108cc engine that is fitted to the Cinq Sportings, therefore fitting a Punto 60 manifold doesn't appear to offer any advantages at all over the standard Panda manifold.

So if you have a 999cc FIRE engine whats your best exhaust manifold option then?

Either a punto 60 or a 1.1 Cinq Sporting?
OK update on the exhaust, actually probably worth sticking with the stock compared to the punto 60. Had a look at mine today and it's a 4 into1 on the manifold presumably to give a single downpipe to stick the lambda in. Gasket to the head is listed as the same part so same bore but obviously it won't mate up with the standard midsection. Fine if you're fabricating your own but no advantage (other than maybe making your own fabrication easier as you're only dealing with a single pipe)
so that manifold is still comfortably installed on the Punto and I guess I'm going to un-SORN that while I whip the old one off grumbles , clean it up and fix whatever studs I wreck getting it apart(n)
Andrew.

From what I understand, the Punto 75 is a 4-2-1. Being a production manifold it should be relatively cheap to buy a s/h one, but the rest of your system will need to be adapted to fit it.
If you want to spend more money an aftermarket sports manifold made for a cinq sporting is the best option, again the rest of the system will need adapting.
In fact to get the best out of either option you should make a larger bore system to go with the manifold.
Please correct me, anyone, if I've got any of this wrong.

Just had a spectacular failiure tonight!

Took my exhaust backbox off, opened it up like a can of beans and removed half the exhaust wadding and spread it out evenly ( i was looking for a more wraspy sound). Then I welded it all back up and fitted it, excited to hear what random sound it was going to make and..............

No difference!!!!

Not a bit!

I did however discover that a previous owner has put a tennis ball inside the rear spring - presumably as a makeshift bump stop to stop the wheels hitting inside the arches.

Found some nasty, nasty rot too!

Right where the housing for the spring is on the body, there is just thick flakey metal. Needs looking at before summer starts anyway.

Probably going to be an entire rear suspension removal as the access is very limited - although on one side there have been reinforcements welded in so someone has fixed the problem on one side already.

Anyone here up for a welding job at their price? I need it fixing!!!

I'm currently finishing off the wiring on the 1.2 16v conversion and have encountered a small problem.

Everything seems to be fine, engine turns over on the starter, oil pressure light goes off after a few cranks, fuel pump pressurises.

But once the fuel pump has brought the injector rail up to pressure - all electrical power is taken from the loom and there is no power to the LT leads meaning no sparks and wahey, engine will not run.

ECU has just been tested & decoded so no problems there.

Wondered if anyone else has had the same problem.

Cheers,

Alex

When turning the ignition on, it is normal for the pump to run for 2 seconds and then cut off.

When you then go to start it, the ECU 'sees' the engine turning over and switches it back on.

Is there a crossed wire that's causing most of the loom to get its power from the output that is only meant to be powering the pump? Shame i'm not in St Annes anymore else i'd come have a gander!
