Technical How to adjust a door hinge?

Hello, I have been wondering where the mystery wind noise appears to be coming from and after a little comparison between left and right have come to the conclusion that the drivers door top hinge is not sitting right...

the door is further out at the top by about 5-8mm and the seal isn't under enough pressure to completely seal the door.

So how to pull in the top part of the door closer to the body work?

Is it a case of the 90 degree doors may have been allowed to swing forward and bent the mount?... because i don't see an awful lot of adjustment.

any info would be good, thanks in advance.

I've cured this by a very simple, if unlikely-sounding, method.

Wind the window down, and put a knee on the inside door handle. Give the top of the window frame several sharp tugs.

I'm serious... If there is wear in the hinges, that is a different story. Check for wear by opening the door slightly and lifting the door by the outside handle.

The hinges on the Tipo are fairly massive, so I haven't seen a worn one yet.

Possibly also move the striker (on the body frame) inwards until the door closes flush with the rear door (or rear panel, if it's an unusual Tipo 3-dr).

Unfortunately you do carry out the door-bending at your own risk, but I think you'll be surprised how effective it is. Another similar tweak is to use a trolley jack and a block of wood to lift a dropped door...

failing that remove the front wing, then you can get to the door bolts, behind the door bolts are shims, or not depending on the build. THese shims tilt the door in or out, if theres one on the top just remove it, dont undo the bolts completely the doors are pretty heavy.

I was looking again this evening and it seems that you don't get much space to fiddle with the hinge, I am not going to take the front wing off... I can live with the noise if I have to.

I didn't se any shims on the inside of the hinge plate fixed to the body work so it looks like it's stuck like that. It seems a very bizarre way to fix a hinge though...

Most cars use spacers to align doors. As opposed to people hanging on them.
wing is easy to remove.
