Tonight I noticed my car makes a squeaking noise (like a hamster in a wheel), but then when disengaging the clutch, it stops (sounds like a fan stopping after being turned off).

From Googling it looks like a clutch release bearing? Any idea how much this will cost to fix.

My car is also making a knocking noise. I had a similar problem before (more like a rumbling though) and the mechanic replaced the front track end rods (I think) in the front, and it stopped. Could it be the same thing again, or the rear ones?

I've done about 1-2k miles since I had those changed and the car has done less than 30k in total.

The only problem is that to get my house a lot of the roads have speed bumps and cobbled roads. I go slowly over them but I don't know if it's still causing problems :(

Firstly, what engine do you have?

Second, there are a few common reasons for knocks from the suspension, if you had searched they would have come up quickly.
However, the first thing to check will be the drop links, check for play in the ball joints.
Second is front suspension top mounts, they make a noise like a spring being twanged when driving at slow speeds or pulling away from kurbs.

Its not worth replacing just the clutch bearing as most of the cost will come from labour. You would be better off replacing the whole clutch

The actual clutch about £100 mark. Including labour at a garage you'll be looking at a total cost of around £300

:yeahthat:

For ref, main dealer with OEM parts would be about £500-£700 (y)

:bang:

I wish I could just leave my car somewhere and come back to find it's gone.

Thanks anyway guys I'll take it to the mechanic on saturday. Is it safe to drive in the mean time?

Also, would it be a particular way of driving that causes this sort of problem (the clutch, not the suspension problem)?

Labor cost in UK is extremely high

LUK clutch set 130 GBP
valeo csc 100 GBP
labor cost 30 GBP
