The time has come to sell my mums punto and I was wondering what people would value it at as alot has been done to it in less than 12 months it was meant to be kept but due to a change in job plus her other car getting fixed it is now surplus to needs.

The punto is as follows,

Fiat Punto 1.2 8 valve Active Sport

2002 02 plate

64,000 miles

3 door Broom yellow

The car has a full clifford alarm system fitted with black jax at a cost of £680

I have the clifford alarm pack to prove that this is not an eBay bought kit and was professionally fitted.

really good condition fresh clean 12 months mot (No advisories)

6 months tax

the follow has been done less than 12 months ago (have receipts)

had a new head gasket with head skimmed not a cheap head set cost £90 just for the headset.

thermostat
water pump
cambelt
tensioner
aux belt
new bosch S5 battery
4 pirelli tyres
Had new discs and pads
just been serviced

There is probably more that has been done but but thats all I can think of so far,

Also fitted is an Alpine head unit at a cost of £180 for the unit it has bluetooth hands free and voice control, used no more than three times have box and everything for it.

The car has had no expense spared to be honest, its a shame it is getting sold :( but I have my own car and mum has gone back to her other car so as said its surplus to needs, if I have missed anything out just let me know looking for a price to list it at and a price to take, there isnt any of the usual rust patches I have been under this car and I am amazed that there is no rust. so it is a very very clean car.

I wont be offended by what people say I personally was thinking about £1000 would be a fair price considering the extras what do other people think?

alarm will mean nothing to anyone who dont live in a real dodgy area the factory immobiliser stops the car being stolen just fine. head unit wont make no difference to cars value put the standard one in and sell separate.

saying a car has had head gasket done seems to put buyers off, so i wouldn't mention that.

then expect to get about £450 for the car but put it up for 700

the alarm was fitted by the previous owner mainly for central locking (god knows why they fitted a clifford alarm), I have the old steel wheels aswell just a little taken back that you would say its only worth £450 for the car, spoke to someone recently that bought a punto without the extras and work done for £750.

Do punto buyers just buy a car as it stands and not care about extras? as I could easily take it back to the bare? steel wheels, oem head unit, old battery.

Wouldn't the car be worth more than £450 in parts and then scrap the shell?

Also thought the alarm may be a good point with regards to ecu's getting stolen with there being a sensor on the bonnet.

Looking at what's currently advertised you could try advertising it at £1000 but you can also buy a mk2b for that money that's not needed the head gasket doing and has not had it's wiring chopped about fitting alarms and after market radios, I know which I'd go for.

Seriously though people don't care about aftermarket extras

I am just taken back a lil bit as I thought a car with everything done and recipets would be worth more than a newer car that has an unknown past?

I know if I was buying a car like when I bought my focus and my sisters merc that I would rather buy a car that I can see has been looked after and had work done than buy a car that has an unknown past?

Could people point me in the direction of puntos similar to mine for cheap within the manchester/ north west area?

As I genuinely cant see any?

If the alarm will put people off I dont mind fitting a new loom eithout the alarm to the car but would assume the manual door locks would put people off? it would put me off?

I do know when my mum was getting insurance quotes the insurance companies loved the fact it had the alarm and it was even registered on their systems.

I know that as I bought the punto, my ford focus and a mercedes A150, I know you haggle on price but I was speaking to someone who has also posted on this forum who has just bought a punto after looking at loads with 2 advisory s no knowledge on cambelt ect for £750 and he doesnt live that far from me, so to me if I was offered punto that had all the history had 4 like new tyres, new cambelt, tensioners all gaskets done and had just been serviced I would of assumed it would be worth the same and a bit more?

Sorry if I am sounding a bit off but I dont understand how a stock punto with a couple of advisory's less road tax and unknown history can be worth more than one with the complete opposite?

Tbh iwouid advertise it at 995 ono and try your luck.

In your honest opinion would the hands free unit make any difference in value? as I can easily remove it and put the old one back in.

Would the alloys make much of a difference to the value? as I can just as easy replace them with the steel wheels?

as I can flog the radio on ebay ones just gone used for £140 and flog the alloys and tyres should get £100 for them and I would be happy with £700-£750.

i also hear of people paying way over the top for a car, can never find one of them when i am selling though :(

I am just shocked as to why round here puntos seem to sell for the £700 mark easily but your saying £450.

to be 100% honest if I would of seen a punto that was as mechanically sound as ours and not rusty and the guy would of taken £450 I would of bought a mini fleet of them and thats not me being sarcastic its just I cant seem to find any I actually went to view a couple to see what others where on offer one the head gasket was clearly gone the other was rusting badly and one was up for £995 and the other for £1295.

I will list it for more than £700 but am unsure if I should remove the head unit ect first and then sell or leave them in.

put the car back to how it was when first bought,
if alloys was fitted to it standard then Wheel trims might put a few off,.

make it all nice and shiney and get it advertised, sit back and wait

good luck with sale,

Looking on gumtree in your area there are quite a number of mk2b puntos 2004 ish sub £1000 price range I've even found some very nice 2002/03 mk2 cars for as little as £500 I'd put the stereo back as it will make no difference, the wheels will make it more attractive to buyers and make it easier to sell but wheels are cheap (like you say £100) so won't make a huge difference to the value
