340 miles with HGT !

Hi there;

This high mileage/km. issue is not a myth.
I'm living in Turkey and we have the worst fuel in Europe which is a 95 octane standard.
I'm insisting on using the Shell V-power(Optimax 4 U) about 2.5 years in my 98'HGT which is about 34k(km.)

I used to drive hard (in urban) and never succeeded to get more than 100km./62miles from 13 liters or lower.
But; because of the economic crisis I lost my job and forced to be more & moooore economical.(Still feeling blue...)

Well, here is the miracle: I drive like a nanny, no sudden accelerations/brakes, never miss the traffic lights(When I see the red, I simply leave the gas pedal), drive in the highest gear at the downhills/flat and definitely forget about the gas pedal until the engine seems to stall etc.etc...

Now I get 100km(urban) from 10.9 liters which means a total of 550km.(340miles) from 60 liters of Shell V-Power(95 Octane).

Yeah, I know that driving style(!) looks like a torture in a 147Hp machine but I have to...(&%!+&?*)
But it helped me to discover that the consumption can be lowered.

Cheers

440 miles in 115 hlx

mixed driving, driving the car as hard as i can i can get it down to 400 ish miles from a tank usually 6 litres left

moan, moan, moan, 240 miles, moan

that's all i get out of mine too but what the hell it's only money! petrol's always going to be too expensive, if you can't afford it buy a diesel fiesta i hear they're good for 60mpg!!!!!!

mileage - what is the problem?

Fiat bravo 1.2.

Get on average 320 miles on 40 litres and still with 10 litres in reserve.

Lets all stop whinging about the 1.2 and bear in mind that the 1.2 has only a 50l tank whereas the 1.6 has a 60l tank. So please if we want to compare apples with apples, lets at least do it in the same playground!!!

Secondly, if you drive your car to the max, of course you will get crap milage. When will you all wake up and stop lining Gordon Brown's coffers!!!!!!

Petrol Consumption

Mine is a 1.6 and the consumption is around 32-35mpg for town driving I get around 320 miles from a whole thank. But as the other guys sais if you drive it hard mpg could be much lower especially if you do shorts drives and the engine drops its temperature before you're off again. Alot of fuel is consumed in heating up the car to optimum temp.

Good Luck!

?

At 35mpg, you should get at least 360 out of the tank - Mine does, and it ALWAYS returns 35mpg - never better, never worse... Either it's consistant, or my driving is.

mpg

i used to have a 1litre polo that averaged 45 mpg+, so i was a little concerned when i moved up to my 1.6 bravo...

i avereage around 38mpg at the moment, doing 60 odd miles a day, mostly on 60mph+ 'A' roads.

if i really push it and dare to go for longer on reserve i can manage around 360 miles on a full tank, but i mostly chicken out at around 320, just when it starts to hit the red...

not bad at all i thought for a car much bigger than the polo.. and with almost twice the hp!
