Fella that changed mine (local indy) said that others have been changed as little as 15k and not the boy racers that whiz around where I live.

Dont have to be a boy racer hammering the brakes (obviously that will kill them off nice and quick)

just sit in a line of traffic and watch some of the numpties in front driving along pressing the brake pedal for no other reason that they have failed to read the road ahead, or are driving up the chuff of the car in front that they have to brake constantly.

You leave a nice big gap car in front brakes you lift off without needing to brake the bit of engine braking begins to slow you as soon as you lift off. You get to the "hazard" and your already doing an appropriate speed without needing to press the middle peddle and as a result the brakes live longer

Agree with that response Andy. I see this every day.

Would be interesting to note the exact lifespan of pads in the real world. Those of us with a bit of mechanical savvy are able to check the pads. Those of us who are not, are at the mercy of whoever services their car. My wife has a Hyundai Getz. Last year it had its 24000 mile service (free as part of 3 year servicing deal) at local Hyundai dealer. Dealer advised it needed new pads, as were on limit. I advised my wife to tell them that she would arrange for them to be fitted by me. On return home, I checked and they were as good as new. A year later on next service, with same pads installed, car was serviced again. No mention made of need for new pads. Call me an old cynic!

56,500 miles now and half worn... I kid you not... discs have a 1.5 mm lip but perfectly good to date.

Mine were changed at 16 or 17k I think. But I'm very heavy on my breaks when I'm on a nice B road.

As I do mainly A road an B road driving now i've had 18k out of this set and they're still good.
